Antibiotic-free original castella in Gimpo Gurae-dong: Jinsim Castella
Jinsim Castella Gimpo Gurae Main Branch is a takeout castella cake shop right in front of Exit 4 of Gurae Station on the Gimpo Gold Line in Gimpo, Gyeonggi. Hunting for a soft snack for a toddler who couldn't eat because of mouth ulcers from hand-foot-mouth disease, I ordered the original Jinsim Castella at 8,700 won (extra whipped cream 1,500 won) and a chocolate whipped cream castella at 9,700 won. The original, baked with antibiotic-free eggs, was plain and barely sweet so the child finished it easily, while the chocolate cream version was the better treat for adults.
