Butter & Shelter Yeonnam is a dessert café in an alley in Yeonnam-dong, with a detached-house feel, an outdoor area paved with brick and soft lighting. I was looking for somewhere comfortable to sit for a long time with good desserts too, so I went on a Yeonnam-dong café date here!

There are so many pretty cafés in Yeonnam-dong, but true to its name, Butter & Shelter feels like a little shelter where you can rest for a while, so my mood went all fluffy the moment I walked in ☺️ The exterior already has a full detached-house charm, and when you spot it in the alley you go "Wow!" and grab your camera first. Thanks to the brick-paved outdoor area and the soft lighting it's pretty in the daytime and the evening mood is even better! It's the kind of café where you want to take a hundred photos.

Is the interior good for resting alone?

The interior has a warm cream-toned design and roomy spacing between seats, so it's perfect for a long chat or for quietly resting alone. It stays open late, so I think it's a great place to drop in when you have time to kill in Yeonnam-dong!

Inside, the warm cream tones, vintage mirrors and moody lights blend together so well. The ceiling lights are soft and easy on the eyes, and little props are placed here and there, so just looking around was fun. The staff also greeted us with smiles and were kind, so even on a first visit I felt comfortable staying. A Yeonnam-dong café date at Butter & Shelter, I'm in love!

The menu is quite varied, from Einspänner-style coffees to ades, teas, cookies, cakes and baked sweets. A poster on the wall also introduced a coconut & mango seasonal menu and low-sugar desserts.

You can pick coffee to your taste, and the tea list is full of fragrant options! I now really want to try the low-sugar desserts next time. The dessert showcase was packed with cookies, cakes and assorted baked sweets, a sight that makes you happy just looking at it. There were so many kinds that I agonized for ages, which was a happy kind of time.

How do the choco chip cookie, choco sand and iced americano taste?

I ordered an iced americano, a choco chip cookie and a choco sand, and the choco sand was truly my kind of thing. The iced americano wasn't strongly acidic and tasted clean, so it went really well with the desserts.

The cookie was slightly crisp outside and moist inside, and it was loaded with chocolate chips, so sweetness popped with every bite.

The choco sand has a crisp, biscuit-like texture outside and is filled with moist, soft cream inside, and the texture combo was just perfect. After one bite I thought, "Should I buy this again to take home?" I'm now full of the urge to try the other cookies one by one next time.

Is the outdoor area good for photos?

When you visit, I recommend checking out the outdoor area too! The brick floor, soft lighting and detached-house building come together for a European-alley kind of atmosphere.

The interior is pretty, but the outdoor area is just as atmospheric, so it's the best for couple dates and for taking photos with friends. The window seats are pretty too, and it's great for snapping a shot with your drink. Wherever you shoot, the mood comes through, so a hundred photos is the baseline! I can see why it's popular as a Yeonnam-dong date course. The atmosphere alone is enough to make me want to come back.

Butter & Shelter Yeonnam stays open late, so it's a nice dessert café to drop into on an evening stroll through Yeonnam-dong. This visit had tasty desserts and a comfortable mood, so it was a day of proper healing.

If you're looking for a place to rest for a while in busy Yeonnam-dong, I really recommend it! With the tasty drinks and desserts, a whole day's fatigue seemed to melt away.
