Cheongdam Station study café with Dubai butter sand: Butter & Shelter

I had plans in the Cheongdam area and went looking for a café where I could really recharge on desserts! This is my visit to Butter & Shelter Cheongdam (버터앤쉘터 청담점), where both the desserts and drinks were perfect. It seems to be one of those Cheongdam café favorites where lots of people come to buy luxurious, pretty gift-boxed butter sands.

Where is Butter & Shelter Cheongdam, and what are its hours?

Butter & Shelter Cheongdam is at 513 Hakdong-ro, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, 1st floor, Unit 7, right in front of Cheongdam Station. It is open daily 10:00-22:00 (last order 21:15), and free parking is available.

The exterior and interior are neat enough that it felt like stepping into a stylish Cheongdam café. If you can't decide which café to go to in Cheongdam, I recommend Butter & Shelter Cheongdam!

Is Butter & Shelter Cheongdam okay for studying?

The mood and tables are good enough that the writer actually studied here, so it works as a Cheongdam Station café for getting things done. Its cozy, snug atmosphere also makes it a lovely spot to chat with a friend or relax and heal on your own. I did a bit of studying on the side, and the atmosphere and tables were just right, so it was a great café for that too.

How do you order, what's on the menu, and is there decaf?

You order easily at the kiosk in the shop. One thing to note: the coffee menu has no decaf option, so check that before you visit.

For drinks you can choose to your taste, from the signature einspänner (Korean-style cream-topped coffee, called "shupenner" here) to Americano, strawberry latte and ades. And the butter sands came in a huge range of flavors, like crème brûlée, chocolate, low-sugar yogurt, mugwort and black sesame!

The restroom is outside the shop: go out and take the stairs immediately on the left up half a floor. There's a sign inside the shop showing where it is, so I got there without getting lost. You need to take toilet paper from the counter, so don't forget!

Are the butter sand gift boxes good as thank-you gifts?

One side of the shop was piled high with luxurious packaging boxes! The butter sands are delicious on their own, but the gift packaging is neat and full of charm, so plenty of people buy them in bulk as thank-you gifts or anniversary presents.

What's in the dessert showcase?

The showcase at Butter & Shelter Cheongdam has butter sands in many flavors, thick cookies and even cakes. After ordering I browsed the dessert showcase, and the variety was huge, so looking around was a real treat. Besides the butter sands in different flavors, it was full of chunky cookies.

On top of that there were mango white cream cake, tiramisu and Basque cheesecake, which makes it a perfect dessert café near Cheongdam Station!

From all that, I ordered the Shelter Einspänner and the Dubai butter sand.

How does the Shelter Einspänner (₩6,000) taste?

The Shelter Einspänner is one of Butter & Shelter Cheongdam's signature drinks. Its dense, heavy cream isn't too sweet, so it goes well with desserts. It came with plenty of cocoa powder sprinkled over the cream, and it looked delicious from the first glance.

I scooped up a little cream with the spoon first, and the sweet, nutty flavor filling my mouth was great. The cream doesn't sit apart from the coffee; it's smooth and clings softly to your mouth, and it isn't overly sweet, so it was an excellent drink to sip alongside a dessert!

The Dubai butter sand at Butter & Shelter Cheongdam pairs a crisp butter sand texture with the sweet flavor of Dubai. The moment I took a bite, the taste rushed into my mouth, and I instantly understood why Butter & Shelter Cheongdam is famous for butter sands! The Dubai butter sand and the coffee of the Shelter Einspänner together made a perfect tea time.
