Baby-friendly Cheongju BBQ, high chair and steamed egg: Baeksan Hwarro
In short
Baeksan Hwarro Techno Polis Songjeol Branch is an aged-meat Korean BBQ restaurant in Songjeong-dong, Heungdeok-gu, Cheongju, in the Techno Polis area around Songjeol-dong. The writer went for an early dinner with her husband and baby and ordered the small mixed platter (일산 작은모둠) for 43,000 won and pot rice for 3,000 won. Thanks to a high chair, a complimentary steamed egg for diners with kids and a nearly smoke-free dining room, the meal was easy, and for families looking for a Korean BBQ to visit with a baby, Baeksan Hwarro is a place worth returning to.

One of the things I always agonize over on weekends is where to eat out. Since we have a baby, it's not just about the taste of the food. How easy the place is to visit with a little one matters a lot to me. This time my husband, Jjokkoyeon (our baby) and I went out for dinner, and we found a BBQ restaurant we were really happy with, so I want to share it.
Baeksan Hwarro in Songjeong-dong, Cheongju: a good Korean BBQ for families?
Baeksan Hwarro in Songjeong-dong, Cheongju (백산화로) fills up with families once evening comes. When we arrived a little early it was relaxed, but as time went on, family after family kept coming in.

We got there a bit early in the evening and it was still relaxed then. But after a little while the mood completely changed, haha. Families pushing strollers, parents holding their kids' hands, even families with grandparents along.
What worries you about BBQ with a baby, and how was Baeksan Hwarro?
At Baeksan Hwarro I hardly had to worry about high chairs, noise, smoke or food for the baby. When you go to a BBQ restaurant with a baby, there are a few things you worry about most, right?

- Is there a high chair?
- Is the restaurant too noisy?
- Is there a lot of smoke?
- Is there food the kid can eat, and so on
But at this place, I hardly had to worry about any of that.

High chairs and a free steamed egg for kids
Baeksan Hwarro has high chairs ready, so we could eat comfortably, and when you come with a child they serve a steamed egg (gyeran-jjim) as a free extra.

A small touch like this feels really big when you're a parent.
What the three of us ordered and how much food it was: small mixed platter and pot rice
The three of us ordered the small mixed platter (₩43,000) and pot rice (₩3,000). One small platter was just the right amount for my husband, me and Jjokkoyeon.
- Small mixed platter (₩43,000)
- Pot rice (₩3,000)
I worried a little that it wouldn't be enough for three people, but once we ate, it was just the right amount for my husband, me and Jjokkoyeon.

I also liked that the platter had a variety of meat, so we could try several cuts.
Pot rice with meat is the best combination, as always! A piece of meat on top, then a spoonful of warm rice. It was a really satisfying meal.
Is there a lot of smoke at Baeksan Hwarro?
Baeksan Hwarro had almost no smoke, which was amazing, and it stayed comfortable through the whole meal. That's especially good for families with a baby who worry about the smell sticking to clothes and hair.

Smoke is one of the things that bothers you most at a BBQ restaurant. At some places I've been to, the ventilation wasn't good and the whole room was full of smoke, and when we left, the meat smell was all over our clothes and even our hair. But here there was almost no smoke, which was honestly amazing. The ventilation seems good, so I never felt stuffy during the meal, and it was much more comfortable. When you eat out with a baby I think this really matters, and it raised my satisfaction a lot, haha.
Would I recommend Baeksan Hwarro for a family meal with a baby in Cheongju?

My husband was happy, and Jjokkoyeon ate the steamed egg so well, so it's a place we want to come back to for our next family meal out. If you're looking for somewhere to eat meat comfortably with a child, I recommend giving it a visit!!
