Lounge-style Seongsu Station café with apple mango cake: La Avenue

La Avenue Seongsu is a cake and dessert café 2 minutes from Exit 1 of Seongsu Station in Seongdong, Seoul, and ordering one drink per person when dining in reportedly covers 1 hour of parking. On a late-evening visit, the writer had a decaf iced americano, a café mocha and an apple mango cake, and was impressed by the high-ceilinged, lounge-like space and the moist, not-too-sweet cake. For a calm cake-and-coffee stop in Seongsu without parking worries, La Avenue Seongsu is a good fit.

Seongsu Thai restaurant before a Thailand trip: crab curry, Soi Nana

Soi Nana is a Thai restaurant on the ground floor of the Arc Valley building near Seongsu Station Exit 2 in Seongdong, Seoul. Craving Thai food ahead of a Thailand trip next month, the writer ordered pu pad pong curry (stir-fried crab curry) with 2 soft-shell crabs and garlic-flake rice, bun cha (grilled pork with rice noodles) and Chang soda water, and the complimentary rice noodle broth beat expectations. Soi Nana's spices are mild enough for Korean palates, making it a Thai restaurant near Seongsu Station worth coming back to.

Quiet Konkuk Univ. café with fresh-fruit soufflé: Andamiro Pancake

Andamiro Pancake is a soufflé pancake dessert café on the 2nd floor of a building on Achasan-ro 25-gil, near Konkuk Univ. Station in Gwangjin, Seoul. At Andamiro Pancake I ordered the signature Andami-ro soufflé with added green tea ice cream, plus an iced Americano and a grapefruit ade; the soufflé, baked as soon as it is ordered, was moist and melted in the mouth, and came piled with fresh, not frozen, fruit. Andamiro Pancake is a good pick for enjoying a soufflé at leisure in a quiet, spacious room away from the crowds of Konkuk Univ.

Konkuk Univ. café: Einspänner latte & thick tiramisu, Café Ohkam

Café Ohkam (OKLM) is a dessert café in a converted red-brick house on an alley off the Konkuk Univ. food street in Gwangjin, Seoul. Café Ohkam uses the whole building, from the 1st floor to the 3rd-floor rooftop, and is home to Koko, a senior cat. The writer ordered an iced Americano, an Einspänner latte and a mascarpone tiramisu in the cool 2nd-floor seating, and the thick tiramisu felt easy on the wallet for its size. With the smell of fresh-baked butter, a resident cat and chewy Einspänner cream, Café Ohkam was a satisfying dessert café near Konkuk Univ. Station.

Dwaeji Gomtang House Musinsa Mega Store Branch is a pork gomtang (Korean pork soup) restaurant in the Special Pop-up Zone of the Food Garden on the 4th floor of Musinsa Mega Store, near Seongsu Station in Seoul. After finishing a shopping trip around Seongsu with a younger sibling, the writer had a late dinner of the clear gomtang set and the spicy gomtang set, and especially liked the mild, clean broth and the herring roe dried radish side dish. To shop and eat in the same building, the gomtang sets at Dwaeji Gomtang House Musinsa Mega Store Branch are a good choice.

Seongsu Station izakaya for a second round: seafood oil pasta at Oukan

Oukan is an izakaya in an alley off Yeonmujang-gil near Seongsu Station Exit 4 in Seongdong, Seoul. The writer stopped by for a second round after dinner, ordered Japanese seafood oil pasta, an Earl Grey highball and a green grape ade, and finished the pasta in no time thanks to its big shrimp and squid and its spicy, savory broth. Oukan's Japanese seafood oil pasta is a satisfying order even as a simple bar snack with drinks.
