Dongdaegu Station brunch café for three: hibiscus berry ade, Baut
In short
Baut is a three-floor brunch café in Sincheon-dong, Dong-gu, Daegu, in the shopping area across from Dongdaegu Shinsegae Department Store. As the first meal of a short Daegu trip, three of us ordered veggie hummus, a green onion jambon sandwich, grilled cheese toast, iced Americanos and a hibiscus berry ade at Baut, and there wasn't a single miss. With a different interior on each floor and an 8-person group table on the 3rd floor, Baut is a great Dongdaegu Station brunch café to drop by before or after a KTX train.

Baut, a brunch café near Dongdaegu Station: the basics
Baut (바우트) is open 10:00-20:00 on weekdays and 11:00-21:00 on weekends, and you can park in the alley next to the entrance. Dogs are reportedly welcome too, but you need to ask the café ahead of time.
Baut was our first meal on a short Daegu trip. It's close to the station, so it's handy before or after the KTX (high-speed train), and the vibe and the food were both great. Here's my review ,, 🫳
How do you get from Dongdaegu Station to Baut?
Baut is a Sincheon-dong café in the area across from Dongdaegu Shinsegae Department Store, about a 15-minute walk from Dongdaegu Station. If you're starting from the station, I recommend taking the passage that connects the station to the subway and coming out at Dongdaegu Station Exit 2.

It's a three-floor building, so even a group can visit with no limits. Every space felt stylish, honestly.

What are the 1st, 2nd and 3rd floors of Baut like?
1st floor: tables for 2 and 4, plus bar seats
The 1st floor of Baut has about four tables for 2 or 4 people, plus bar seats. They use furniture colors so well! The chair colors are totally my style.

2nd floor: window wall and spacious table layout
This is the 2nd floor 〰️ one side of the building is a wall of windows, so the view outside as you walk up was refreshing and lovely.

The 2nd floor felt completely different from the 1st: brighter color combinations, and a really big space where the tables are spread out, so even when it's busy it doesn't feel crowded or chaotic. I liked that.

3rd floor: pastel tables and an 8-person group table
Last, I checked out the 3rd floor. Spotting how the interior changes on each floor is fun ,,

Personally, the 3rd floor was my favorite. Pastel tables with black chairs won my heart ^____^ If I come back, I want to spend some quiet time up there alone.

The 3rd floor of Baut even has an 8-person group table. Brunch cafés are often too small or lack suitable tables, so a group visit is out of the question, but this Dongdaegu Station brunch café makes it possible ✨
Baut's menu and what the three of us ordered
Baut has a wide range of drinks, including coffee, non-coffee and tea, and brunch dishes I wanted to try every single one of.

I especially liked that they sell hummus. Here's what the three of us ordered.
- Veggie hummus
- Green onion jambon sandwich
- Grilled cheese toast
- Iced Americano
- Hibiscus berry ade

Our food came out quickly while we were chatting. The three of us were so hungry that we ordered three dishes, and I'm so glad we did ,, not a single miss, everything was delicious.

Green onion jambon sandwich: a different charm from jambon-beurre
Baut's green onion jambon sandwich passed the test: the bread isn't chewy, it's crisp and soft. When I ordered, I thought it would be like a jambon-beurre (ham and butter baguette sandwich), but it had a totally different charm! Lightly grilled jambon with green onion was such a good combo.

Grilled cheese toast: one nobody will dislike
I ordered the grilled cheese toast because I wanted something warm, and this is truly one of those dishes nobody will dislike. It has cheese and ham inside, plus a jam that gives a gentle sweetness, strawberry jam maybe? So good 🤧 It's tasty as is, and dipped in the chipotle sauce that comes with it and sprinkled with peperoncino, you get a spicy, savory kick too.

Veggie hummus: mild, nutty, piled on baguette
Baut's veggie hummus comes with lots of finely chopped vegetables, like arugula. If you're sensitive to herbs like me, you can just leave out the dill that comes with it. Mix the smooth hummus with the vegetables and pile it on the baguette: mild and nutty, the kind of flavor you keep reaching for .. ♥ I also piled plenty of hummus on the green onion jambon sandwich we ordered, and it went so well together.

Iced Americano and hibiscus berry ade
Baut's coffee is a nutty Americano with no sourness 🧉 The surprise kicker was the hibiscus berry ade. I really hate sweet drinks, but this was exactly my taste: cool and clean, with no artificial sweetness. It's my top pick among the non-coffee drinks! 🫐

Is Baut worth a visit before or after the KTX?
I'd been curious about this Dongdaegu Station brunch café, and Baut was perfect from the space to the taste, so I'd happily recommend it 〰️ If you want one more café stop before or after your train, give it a try.
