Yangjae makguksu restaurant with 100% buckwheat noodles: Seonbawi

In short

Seonbawi Memil Jangteo Yangjae Branch is a Korean noodle restaurant near Yangjae Citizens' Forest Station in Seocho, Seoul, opened by the same owners as the original Gwacheon shop. Two diners shared myeongtaehoe suyuk (boiled pork with pollack sashimi) at 23,000 won and one myeongtaehoe makguksu (pollack sashimi buckwheat noodles) each at 13,000 won, and the 100% buckwheat noodles tasted nutty and chewy while the pork never turned heavy alongside the pollack and seasoned radish. For two people, Seonbawi Memil Jangteo is best ordered as one suyuk plus one bowl of makguksu each.

Gwacheon's Seonbawi Memil Jangteo opens a Yangjae branch

Seonbawi Memil Jangteo Yangjae Branch is a 100% buckwheat noodle restaurant on Gangnam-daero 18-gil, near Yangjae Citizens' Forest Station. Do you know the original Seonbawi Memil Jangteo in Gwacheon, famous for perilla oil buckwheat noodles? I love that place so much I go back regularly, but honestly it's a bit far ㅜㅜ so I couldn't visit often and just kept thinking 'ah, I want that' in my heart. But then I saw they opened a branch in Yangjae?!?!?! I went the moment I found out.

Here are the basic side dishes! Kimchi and dongchimi (radish water kimchi) broth. Both were lightly seasoned without a strong taste, so they went well alongside the food.

Myeongtaehoe suyuk, 23,000 won: pork that stays light

✅ Myeongtaehoe Suyuk (23,000 won)! This dish comes with boiled pork (suyuk), pollack sashimi (myeongtaehoe) and bossam radish slaw, and you absolutely have to order it ...... I'm not usually a big fan of boiled pork (it feels greasy to me), but the suyuk at Seonbawi Memil Jangteo Yangjae Branch is the best • ・ 🥹 Eaten together with the pollack sashimi or radish slaw, there's zero greasiness. You just keep reaching for more.

Myeongtaehoe makguksu, 13,000 won: 100% buckwheat with pollack sashimi

✅ Myeongtaehoe Makguksu (13,000 won)! We both picked this pollack sashimi buckwheat noodle dish, and the harvest of 100% buckwheat flavor combined with the tangy, savory pollack sashimi is honestly incredible. They say the raw pollack is aged with apple vinegar and sun-dried salt, cutting down the fishy taste while keeping a chewy texture! Maybe that's why there wasn't a hint of fishiness — just a delicious sweet-and-sour flavor throughout.

What to order for two, and how long the wait is

Since the dough is made fresh the moment you order, it can take a little time! But the pollack sashimi bossam came out first, so we happily ate and waited ㅎㅎㅎ For two people, I'd recommend one order of the pollack sashimi bossam plus one noodle bowl each 💛

Mixed pollack sashimi buckwheat noodles on the table with side dishes

These are the noodles at Seonbawi Memil Jangteo Yangjae Branch, made from their own freshly-milled 100% buckwheat. Great aroma, nutty flavor, and really chewy texture ,, if you haven't tried it, you really should 😍

+ I'm pretty weak with spicy food ,, so it was a bit spicy for me, but it was the kind of spicy that really makes you crave more, so I got through it fine with some water ㅋㅋㅋ

Chopsticks lifting a strand of 100% buckwheat noodles

A bite of pollack sashimi bossam followed by a bite of noodles = truly enlightened living. My boyfriend was eating so happily that I snapped a photo 🤣 (even writing this now, my mouth is watering ,,)

Eating the noodles together with the boiled pork dish

We were so stuffed we could barely finish, so a bit of noodles was left behind, shimmering ,, portions are generous too, so you'll leave completely full ㅠㅠㅠ

Second-floor group room and parking at Seonbawi Memil Jangteo

The second floor seats 50 for group reservations or private rental~! If you're planning a group gathering in the Gangnam, Seocho or Yangjae area, this place would be perfect ㅎㅎ

Parking space in front of the store

Parking is available in front of the store (space is limited, about 4 spots), and if it's full, there are nearby public lots too, so drivers should be fine~ [Yangjae Neighborhood Park public lot / Maeheon Citizens' Forest public lot]

I can't believe I can now enjoy Seonbawi Memil Jangteo, a place I've loved for so long, right in Yangjae ,, if you haven't been, you should definitely visit. I'll probably be craving it again soon myself ㅋㅋㅋ
