Seosomun Chinese restaurant for boiled dumplings and tofu: Huhugwan
Huhugwan is a Chinese restaurant with a Taiwanese and Hong Kong mood on the second floor at 2 Seosomun-ro 11-gil, near Seoul City Hall Station. Stopping by for an early weekday dinner after a Gwanghwamun–City Hall date, the writer ordered three dishes at Huhugwan — mapo tofu rice, garlic scape fried rice and Chinese-style boiled dumplings — and the mapo tofu rice stood out for the mala numbness that rises after you swallow, plus one big whole block of tofu. If you want Chinese flavors that have not been toned down for Korean tastes, Huhugwan works for both a date and a weekday meal out with coworkers.
