Since it opens at 11:00, I looked into it and found out they do lunch too. As you'd expect from an aged sashimi hotspot near Jonggak Station, the kaisendon (sashimi rice bowl) set looks totally delicious. Gotta try it! The entrance is up the building's stairs.
What's the atmosphere at Suksseong Susan Jongno Main Branch? Good for a date?
The aging fridge greets you right at the entrance. For a place known for aged sashimi in Jongno, I can't even imagine yet how good it'll be. My expectations were sky-high.
The interior is all black, so you might worry it's too dark, but not at all!! If anything it gives the place a more upscale feel. On top of that, every seat can be screened off with a fabric-like curtain, so it feels like a private room. It has a private room-style bar vibe, this Jongno aged sashimi spot!! The atmosphere is totally my taste.

Terrace-like seats on the 3rd-floor window
The window seats at Suksseong Susan have a great vibe that makes you not envy a terrace bar. Being on the 3rd floor, the view is really good too. This is exactly the izakaya (Japanese-style pub) for a Jonggak Station date with a lovely mood. I recommend visiting in the evening as a couple!
And it's not just one terrace-like seat. They run all along the windows, which is great! But they're popular for exactly that reason, so you have to go early.
Suksseong Susan menu near Jonggak Station and how to order

At Suksseong Susan Jongno Main Branch you order with the tablet at each table.

Suksseong Susan in Jongno leads with delicious aged sashimi, plus seasonal seafood dishes, and when I went there was raw shrimp~ There's also a refreshing crab roe stew, fried shrimp, chicken nanban (Japanese-style fried chicken with tartar sauce), tangy mulhoe (chilled raw fish soup) and yukhoe (Korean beef tartare) and more, so it's a fun place even if you're going with someone who doesn't eat raw fish. I came for aged sashimi in Jongno, so I ordered mostly that. Happy happy.

There's also a receipt review event that gives you things like abalone, sea cucumber and rock sea squirt, so join in. The Wi-Fi info is on the restaurant's notice too.
Suksseong Susan's basic setting
It's a classy basic setting. Green peas, soft tofu and pretty tableware, so you can't help but take photos. The tangy seasoned dried radish greens (siraegi) in particular were a stroke of genius.

Small aged sashimi platter, ₩69,000: what's in it and how does it taste?
The small aged sashimi platter at Suksseong Susan is ₩69,000, and each kind of fish comes with its own name tag. If you're dreaming of a sashimi date near Jonggak Station, a great look matters, right~ and Suksseong Susan's plating is art from the start. It comes out neat and pretty, so your girlfriend definitely needs you to wait while she takes photos!!! Delicious-looking. Above all, I absolutely love the name tags for each type.

Big flatfish, red sea bream and salmon topped with ankimo
The section with big flatfish, red sea bream and salmon was my favorite combination. Rich flatfish fin muscle (engawa) or salmon with savory ankimo (monkfish liver) on top, plus a dab of wasabi, is perfect! This combo goes great with the sea bream too, just so you know!

Greater amberjack with rinsed aged kimchi and radish sprouts in seaweed
Suksseong Susan nails all three beats! Add rinsed aged kimchi and radish sprouts in seaweed to the clean-tasting greater amberjack and the savory depth doubles. The reason a sashimi date is so good is that you can eat neatly, one bite at a time. And you still don't miss out on taste or mood: that's a Jongno sashimi date.

Croaker, bluefin tuna, sweet shrimp, and free corkage
This is the section with croaker, bluefin tuna and super sweet shrimp. The bluefin tuna had a nicely rich texture that was balanced and easy to eat. Yep, it's a real aged sashimi hotspot, so good. It's also a perfect fit when you're looking for an izakaya near Jonggak Station that does sashimi well. On top of that, they told me Suksseong Susan has free corkage. That's such a jackpot, recommended!

How was the seasonal raw shrimp, ₩39,000?
The seasonal raw shrimp at Suksseong Susan is ₩39,000 and comes with fried shrimp heads. A beautiful presentation plus the fried shrimp heads on the side, so good! The shrimp is chewy and sticky, so the texture is great, and the fried heads are savory and delicious~ Eating this made me think of beer. Fried food and beer is a perfect match!
Cheers, cheers, cheers, happy again today, cheers, cheers, cheers.
Is the restroom at Suksseong Susan clean?
The restroom at Suksseong Susan Jongno Main Branch is inside the restaurant and separate for men and women. It's tidy and doesn't smell!
