Daewangam, Ulsan Chinese restaurant: seafood pasta-like jjamppong
In short
Ulsan Daewangam Dol Jjamppong (울산대왕암돌짬뽕) is a Chinese restaurant on Ilsanjin 5-gil in Dong-gu, Ulsan, near Daewangam Park and Ilsan Beach, specialising in jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) served on a hot stone plate. The nurungji (scorched rice crust) stone jjamppong and dontang chitang (pork and chicken sweet-and-sour) set cost 38,000 won, and at Shin Ramyun spice level it was spicy with a lively seafood aroma, somewhere between Chinese and Western food. The visit to Ulsan Daewangam Dol Jjamppong was sponsored, but it is an unusual jjamppong spot worth going back to on your own money.

Today I visited Ulsan Daewangam Dol Jjamppong (울산대왕암돌짬뽕), a well-known Ulsan restaurant near Daewangam. They say that within four months of opening it was getting over 100 groups a day on average, and it was even featured on a local Ulsan MBC food show right after opening.
It's one of only three places in the country serving stone-bowl jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup), here in Ilsanji, Ulsan. A really unusual kind of jjamppong!
Ulsan Daewangam Dol Jjamppong hours and parking
The restaurant is open from 11:00 to 21:00, with a break from 15:30 to 17:00. You can park in front of the restaurant.
Is the interior good for group gatherings?
There's a space with regular tables for casual meals, plus private rooms, so it works well for all kinds of get-togethers.

🏠 It's roomy enough for groups, so family meals, dates, friend meetups, company dinners and group gatherings are all possible!

Kid-friendly, and a handy self-service corner
👶 One side of the restaurant has a separate storage box for children's tableware, so it's easy to use with kids. The self-service corner has pickled radish, onions and green onion kimchi, and you can help yourself whenever you run out without feeling awkward about it.
Recommended menu and prices
The recommended menu is the nurungji (scorched rice) stone jjamppong + dontang chitang set (₩38,000). Both the stone jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles) and the stone jjamppong are cooked right when you order, which got me even more excited.

🍜 Since the dishes come in a hot stone bowl, I thought it would take a long time, but the food came out fast, within 15 minutes!

Shin Ramyun-level spice: tastes like seafood pasta
🍜 I chose Shin Ramyun level for the spice of the stone jjamppong. It's spicy but the seafood aroma really comes through, so it felt a bit like a spicy seafood pasta. I also liked that it keeps bubbling away on the hot stone, so it stays warm to the very end.
The dontang chitang set is recommended too
🍗 The dontang chitang set I ordered alongside comes with fried pork cutlet plus fried chicken! The frying was really crispy and went great with the stone jjamppong. A bite of spicy jjamppong, then a bite of crunchy pork cutlet or fried chicken, and the combination was sooo good!!!!!🤤
How is the stone jjamppong different from regular jjamppong?
I visited on a sponsorship, but personally I'd want to come back on my own money too. The stone jjamppong has a charm that's clearly different from regular jjamppong, and with its in-between feel of Chinese and Western food, it was unusual and really delicious.
There's also the fun of scraping up the crispy, nurungji-like crust stuck to the bottom of the stone bowl, so I enjoyed it right to the end. If you're looking for a different kind of jjamppong in Ulsan, I recommend stopping by at least once.
Candy and yogurt after the meal

They even had candy and yogurt ready after the meal, and I thought it was a thoughtful touch right to the end! After a hot, spicy stone jjamppong, a bottle of yogurt was the perfect palate cleanser.
It works for family gatherings, dates and friend meetups, and with group seating and rooms, it looked fine for company dinners too. If you're looking for somewhere different to eat near Daewangam Park or Ilsan Beach, Ulsan Daewangam Dol Jjamppong is worth a visit 😊
