Yangsan bakery café by Hopo Station with cheese ciabatta: Choi

Choi Main Branch (초이) is a river-view bakery café right in front of Hopo Station in Dong-myeon, Yangsan, Gyeongnam, opened under a new name in the former Haewoldang location. From the rooftop and floor-to-ceiling windows of Choi, the writer watched the Nakdong River over cheese ciabatta, garlic sticks, Mont Blanc, a chapssal kkwabaegi (glutinous-rice twisted doughnut) and strawberry roll cake, then stayed for the sunset. Verdict: Choi is a sunset spot near Busan you can reach by public transport, with bread that holds up too.

Western restaurant by Namyangsan Station for mild vongole: Bueokgan

Bueokgan Restaurant Yangsan Oslo Park Branch is the 18th company-run Western restaurant of the Bueokgan chain, on the basement level (B1) of Oslo Park in Mulgeum, Yangsan. The writer ordered the signature pastry soup (10,000 won), vongole pasta (20,000 won) and basil margherita pizza (19,000 won) and enjoyed a gently seasoned meal under high ceilings and among European vintage furniture inspired by Sweden's Nationalmuseum. The pastry tasted a little floury, but the mild vongole and the margherita crust dipped in pumpkin soup made Bueokgan a memorable lunch spot by Namyangsan Station.
