Yulha, Gimhae clam kalguksu a shellfish-shy teen loved: Seosan Dongjuk

Seosan Dongjuk Kalguksu (서산동죽칼국수) is a clam kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) restaurant in Yulha, Gimhae, that says it makes its broth from live dongjuk clams shipped direct from the source. On a rainy-season Saturday, the writer, her hungover husband and their 16-year-old, who doesn't eat clams, shared 3 servings of dongjuk clam kalguksu at ₩9,000 each and a ₩15,000 Onakssae seafood pancake, and they finished every drop of the broth. With its cool, clean broth and Haenam napa cabbage geotjeori (fresh kimchi), Seosan Dongjuk Kalguksu is a Yulha kalguksu spot worth a return visit.

Myeongji, Busan seafood bone jjim with rice on a hot day: Haemullae

Haemullae is a restaurant in Myeongji International City, Gangseo, Busan, that specializes in stone-plate seafood and pork neck bone jjim (braised in a spicy sauce). On a hot weekend before grocery shopping, the writer ordered the 3-person stone-plate seafood bone jjim for ₩58,000. The writer worked through fresh-fried squid tempura, whole squid, abalone, shrimp and pork neck bones, then ordered a bowl of rice so the sauce would not go to waste. Haemullae is a spicy, energy-restoring meal for days when you do not want to stand over a hot grill.

Yulha, Gimhae bossam restaurant with kimchi refills: Myeongji Cheotjip

Myeongji Cheotjip Jangyu Yulha Branch is a bossam (boiled pork wraps) and jokbal (braised pig's trotters) Korean restaurant on the 2nd floor of A-One Plaza in Yulha 2-district, Jangyu, Gimhae, from a brand already well known in Myeongji, Busan. The weekday lunch special Jeonggalhansang (30,000 won for 2) came with boiled pork bossam, an individual doenjang (soybean paste) stew and black rice, and the refillable kimchi and the jeotgal (salted seafood) sold at the entrance stood out. With a bright, spacious dining room, private rooms and baby chairs, Myeongji Cheotjip is a good Yulha 2-district pick for family meals or dining out with parents.
