Nine skewer types and oden nabe at Robatayaki Sodam, a Guro izakaya

Robatayaki Sodam Guro Digital Complex Branch is a Japanese-style robatayaki izakaya on the 2nd floor at 97-3 Digital-ro 32-gil, Guro-gu, Seoul. Catching up with a former coworker, the writer ordered nine kinds of skewers — chicken, chicken cartilage, heart, butter shrimp, bacon cheese rice cake and more — with oden nabe (fish cake hot pot) to share. Between the charcoal skewers, the warm broth and the low lighting, Robatayaki Sodam works well for dinner and drinks in Guro Digital Complex.

Seoul Japanese restaurant near Gyeongbokgung for a date: Hurato

Hurato Sikdang Gyeongbokgung Main Branch is a Japanese restaurant on the basement arcade level of the Royal Building in Jongno, Seoul, between Gyeongbokgung and Gwanghwamun stations. On a weekend date, we ordered the two signature sets — the gyukatsu (Japanese-style breaded beef cutlet) set and the steki (steak) set, 19,500 won each — and grilled the beef ourselves on a tabletop brazier. Ordering both is the best way to compare the two styles, and a reservation is close to essential for lunch and weekend dinner at Hurato Sikdang.
