Jongno, Seoul perfume workshop with an event diffuser gift: Muhwawon

I visited Muhwawon Bukchon Perfume Workshop, a perfume studio in Bukchon! Let's get right into the review!

How to find Muhwawon Bukchon Perfume Workshop and when you can go in

Muhwawon Bukchon Perfume Workshop is at 23 Yulgok-ro 6-gil, 3rd floor, Jongno-gu, Seoul. We booked ahead, got a text message on the day of the reservation with instructions, and went in following those. We also checked the map beforehand so we found it without getting lost.

Muhwawon is located on the 3rd floor. Since we were making our very own perfume, I was so excited.

Note that entry is allowed starting 10 minutes before your reservation time. We arrived about 5 minutes early too.

Once we stepped inside, it felt calm and warm.

We had booked for two, and once we gave the name on the reservation, we were guided to our seats.

What the tablet pre-survey and video lecture cover

After sitting down at Muhwawon, we did a pre-survey on a tablet. It was simple, so it didn't take long.

These are the ingredients used to make the perfume. There were so many varieties, it was fascinating.

We watched a short video on the tablet.

They also gave us headphones so we could listen while watching the video.

They explained in detail how perfume is made, too.

The steps for the perfume we'd be making were laid out in detail, so it was easy to understand.

There was also a simple introduction to perfume itself, which made things easier to follow.

There was also a Muhwawon theory notebook prepared, which we looked through.

It covered things like fragrance concentration and scent notes.

An accord, apparently, is when two or more scents combine to create harmony.

Choosing scents through four rounds of blending

Now we got into actually making the perfume. We smelled each scent one by one and checked off the ones we liked.

The ingredients were prepared in the back, and they brought over all the scents we picked.

Since there were two of us picking a variety of scents, some overlapped, so this is roughly how many we ended up bringing over!

We added one drop of each scent I'd picked, mixed them, and tested whether we liked the result.

They gave us 3 mini vials, so we got to test 3 times in total.

We followed the perfumer's instructions step by step, and it was so much fun.

After finishing the 3rd round, we got an extra tube and decided to test once more.

So I tested a total of 4 times, and decided to make the perfume based on the 3rd blend, which I liked best.

Looking at my checklist, the perfumer calculated exactly how much of each scent to add and told us.

Using a scale, we combined the scents one by one this way. At the end, we stirred it thoroughly with a stick.

Name printing and the finished 50ml perfume, aged 2 weeks

At Muhwawon you can name your perfume, so we came up with a name, and it was nice that they printed it on the spot.

Our perfume was complete! Having a perfume that's truly mine, the only one of its kind in the world, is genuinely appealing. It can't be used right away though — apparently you should let it age for about 2 weeks before use.

We brought the perfume home!

It came packaged in a nice, upscale box.

Being 50ml, there was more volume than I expected! It's a perfume for fall and winter, and I'm so looking forward to wearing it!

That's how the perfume-making went — it was such a great experience that I'd love to come back again if I get the chance.

They made the diffuser with the same scent I'd tested, and it was so cute and lovely.
