Lamb skewer spot by Sinseoldong Station, revisited: Yangchigi Sonyeo

A lamb skewer spot I absolutely have to recommend near Sinseoldong Station, whether for a group dinner or a date! I visited Yangchigi Sonyeo Sinseoldong (양치기소녀) some years ago and wanted to go again, so here's my revisit review. Let's go!

Where is Yangchigi Sonyeo Sinseoldong, and is there parking?

Yangchigi Sonyeo Sinseoldong is at 13 Cheonho-daero, Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul (1st floor), open daily 11:00 to 24:00. By public transit, it's close to Exit 6 or 7 of Sinseoldong Station.

Parking is possible for about 4 cars behind the restaurant! Good to know.

This is my second visit, and there were way more customers than the first time!!! Wow. Good restaurants always seem to be busier when you come back!

What comes in the Yangchigi Sonyeo lamb skewer set, and how much is it?

The lamb skewer set at Yangchigi Sonyeo Sinseoldong is ₩60,000 and comes with 2 servings of lamb skewers plus kkanpung eggplant shrimp and tomato egg soup. You can pick the skewer flavor from Original, Curry, Teriyaki or Mean Lamb Skewer (못된 양꼬치).

Here's the menu. Last time I had the lamb ribs and guobaorou (Chinese sweet-and-sour pork), but this time the lamb skewer set (₩60,000) looked so good that I just ordered it right away!!!

I was going to order side dishes with the skewers anyway, and this is so generous!!! For 2–3 people, I'd say the lamb skewer set is a must-order!

Which side dishes come with your meal at Yangchigi Sonyeo Sinseoldong?

Besides zha cai (pickled mustard stem) and peanuts, Yangchigi Sonyeo Sinseoldong serves shredded konjac and cucumber, dried tofu noodles and a vegetable salad. Many lamb skewer places stop at zha cai and peanuts, but here there are so many side dishes that I was already ready to down a bottle of soju...

Yep. It's sweltering out, so I'll mix up a soju-and-beer (with Chamisul and Cass) for the first time in a while. The green glass is pretty too!!!

What does the tomato egg soup taste like?

The tomato egg soup is a great side soup to order at Yangchigi Sonyeo. Tomato plus egg, need I say more? A healthy combo, right? 🍅🥚 It's packed with bok choy too, so it's perfect for sipping spoonful by spoonful as a hangover-soup-style chaser while you drink!!!

Where's the shrimp in the kkanpung eggplant shrimp?

Yangchigi Sonyeo's kkanpung eggplant shrimp (a spicy-sweet fried dish) is said to have minced shrimp inside the eggplant. A super delicious dish arrives;;; Wait, I can't see any shrimp, so why is shrimp in the name??? I asked the owner, and he said minced shrimp is stuffed inside the eggplant! ??? How did they get it in there!!! My curiosity exploded haha hahahahahaha

This is a Chinese dish that simply can't be bad.. A tip: it's a little (very) hot, so cut it with scissors first and blow on it to cool it down before eating!!!

How good are the lamb skewers at Yangchigi Sonyeo?

The original lamb skewers at Yangchigi Sonyeo Sinseoldong had no gamey smell, a clean aftertaste and big pieces of meat, which I loved. Here's the star of the day, 2 servings of original lamb skewers~!

Why I kept thinking about Yangchigi Sonyeo.. both the lamb ribs and the lamb skewers have no gamey smell, a clean aftertaste and big pieces of meat, which I really liked. Whenever I'm anywhere near Sinseoldong, I find myself thinking of Yangchigi Sonyeo…!

The charcoal fire is fierce too.. Even though the weather was hot, they had the air conditioning blasting, so I wasn't hot at all even right next to the charcoal.

The skewers spin round and round as they cook! Ahh, how long has it been since I met lamb skewers..!

May I take the first bite? A dip in the cumin (zira) seasoning and nom nom!!! Ahh yes, this is the taste.. juicy lamb bursting in my mouth..

I'm quite a regular at places that do lamb skewers well (I drag all my friends, seniors, juniors, every acquaintance along), and I'm officially stamping Yangchigi Sonyeo as one of my regular spots too. Bang bang bang!

Revisiting Yangchigi Sonyeo Sinseoldong: is it worth it?

I was eating so happily that the owner even brought out stir-fried water spinach (gongsimchae) as a free side. Thank you…!💚 If you want proper lamb skewers or lamb ribs near Sinseoldong and Dongmyo, I highly recommend Yangchigi Sonyeo Sinseoldong. Totally satisfied with the revisit!!!
