I often end up having lunch near Hapjeong Station~ I'd drunk way too much the night before, so my stomach was totally empty and I was craving a burger as a hangover cure. I searched for handmade burger places nearby and ended up at New York Apartment (뉴욕아파트먼트), a famous Hapjeong lunch spot.
Location and how to get to New York Apartment
New York Apartment is at 14 Woldeukeop-ro 3-gil, Mapo-gu, Seoul, 306 m from Exit 9 of Hapjeong Station. It's open daily 11:10-23:00, and parking is available.

New York Apartment is in the second shopping block, on the Prugio side of Hapjeong Station Exits 8 and 9. It's right next to the Hapjeong community center, but I came out through the station so I got a little confused. For an easy route, take the Golfzon elevator in the second shopping block from the Kyobo Book Centre side in the basement and go straight up to the 2nd floor!
What's the atmosphere inside New York Apartment?
The inside is decorated in a funky style, like a hip American handmade burger joint. It really feels like a burger place you'd see in the US, haha. It's also much bigger than I expected, so it would work for a group gathering.
They had the Blue Ribbon records hanging up, and seeing that it's been vouched for by the Blue Ribbon for 8 years in a row made me even more excited. There were lots of celebrity autographs on the wall too, so it must be a really hot handmade burger spot in Hapjeong ✨ One of the signed sheets was a sneaky dad joke that kept catching my eye, hahaha: "New York Apartment (not Treatment), sorry..." It was pointlessly funny, haha.

New York Apartment has good-value set menus, so we ordered the set for two. It came with a New York Cheese Burger, coleslaw and mushroom cream risotto, plus 2 colas.
New York Cheese Burger: a thick beef patty and rich cheese
The New York Cheese Burger came out first, with a thick beef patty and rich, gooey cheese blended with the vegetables New York style. Just looking at it made me feel full!
With the set for two we got 2 colas, and refills are available, hahaha. I get a little sad when there are no refills, but New York Apartment does them, so I had one more refill.
The burger is so thick there's no way to eat it in one bite, so I cut it up and shared it with my boyfriend. I can usually finish a whole burger myself, but the New York Cheese Burger was so thick and hearty that I got full fast. If you're ordering a variety of dishes, I think one burger to share is plenty.
The cheese is really rich, as you can see in the photo, and its nutty, mellow flavor went so well with the slightly salty patty. A patty that thick can end up a bit dry, but not this one, and the sauce and vegetables were in great harmony!
Coleslaw instead of fries
When you order a set at New York Apartment, you can choose coleslaw instead of fries. And, the dieter's conscience... haha, I went with coleslaw! It came in a huge bowl, so there was plenty to scoop up without running out.
It's a burger place, but is the risotto any good?
The mushroom cream risotto at New York Apartment was just the thing to soothe a hangover-wracked stomach. I usually like risotto, so I gave it a try. You can tell from the look of it that it's creamy and mild, right?!
But why is the risotto good here too, hahaha?! The rice has a real bite, and you can feel every single grain. Honestly, it's a burger specialist so I ordered the risotto without expecting much, but it was surprisingly delicious and I cleaned the plate! If you like risotto, definitely order it 👍 My boyfriend and I both marveled at how addictively good it was.
Would I go back to New York Apartment?
The owner was so kind and the place was cutely decorated, this Hapjeong lunch spot, New York Apartment. When I want a simple, tasty burger, I'll probably go again :) If you're near Hapjeong Station and want a quick lunch, I highly recommend the handmade burgers at New York Apartment!
