Weekday-opening tonkatsu in Dongtan: tenderloin soba set, Kkot Gatsu
In short
Kkot Gatsu Dongtan Main Branch is a tonkatsu restaurant in Mokdong, Dongtan (Hwaseong, Gyeonggi), a neighborhood favorite with a wait at almost every mealtime. Arriving right at weekday opening, the writer walked in with no wait and shared the cold soba set (cold soba + 100g tenderloin, 17,000 won) and the top loin katsu (16,000 won), and Kkot Gatsu's tender tenderloin won over a writer who never used to like tenderloin. Verdict: on a hot day at Kkot Gatsu, icy cold soba with tonkatsu is the combination to order.

Kkot Gatsu (꽃가츠) is a tonkatsu (breaded pork cutlet) restaurant in Mokdong, Dongtan (33 Wangbaesan 3-gil, Dongtan-gu, Hwaseong, Gyeonggi, 1st floor). I'm a total tonkatsu lover and I've tried quite a lot of tonkatsu places in Dongtan, and personally this was the most satisfying one so far.
There's a wait at almost every mealtime, so it's already well known in the neighborhood. There's parking too, so I could go without worrying about it.

This is Kkot Gatsu, a Dongtan tonkatsu favorite. I really love tonkatsu and have been to several places in Dongtan, and this is the one where I enjoyed the tonkatsu most so far.

Is there a wait at Kkot Gatsu, and where can you park?
I went right at weekday opening, and luckily there was no wait. You can park about 2 cars in front of the shop, and the building's lot has space for about 2-3 more.
I heard the Mokdong public parking lot also supports parking time, so it's a place you can visit without worrying about parking!

Is Kkot Gatsu good for solo dining or a date?
The restaurant is bright and clean with comfortably spaced tables, so it works for solo meals, families and dates. The moment I walked in, I was impressed by how clean and tidy it was.
It's bright and sunny overall, and the tables are spaced well so I could eat comfortably. They had a beam projector showing pretty pictures with relaxing music, which fit the atmosphere well and put me in a great mood haha

I think it'd be good for eating alone, and it's a great tonkatsu spot for family or dates too. The place is so pleasant that I liked it right away haha. The staff were also very kind and cheerful. I felt happier the second I sat down ✨

The self-service area has tableware, sauces and so on, so you can take as much as you want haha. They even thoughtfully have takeout containers, so I could easily pack up leftover tonkatsu.

The katsu set is tonkatsu plus half a bowl of udon. You can add udon to any of the basic katsu above, and there are two kinds: hwa-udon (spicy) and su-udon (mild)! *Apparently cold soba can't be made into a set ㅠ
For the katsu you can also do loin + tenderloin, cheese + tenderloin, or cheese + loin, so these are for people who want to enjoy two kinds of katsu haha.

What comes in the Kkot Gatsu cold soba set?
The cold soba set (₩17,000) is a katsu set of cold soba + tenderloin (100g). We ordered a top loin katsu for ₩16,000 and a cold soba set for ₩17,000.

Here's the tenderloin tonkatsu and cold soba set. The weather had gotten hot, so I was craving cold soba haha. There happened to be a set paired with tenderloin katsu, so I tried it! The soba had slushy ice in it so it was refreshingly cold, and the tenderloin came as about 4 pieces (100g total).
Rice and salad aren't included in the cold soba set, but we ordered the top loin katsu too and shared.

What's in the Kkot Gatsu top loin katsu?
The top loin katsu is 200g total, about 6 pieces, served with rice, soup and salad. The default sauces are two kinds of salt, wasabi and tonkatsu sauce.
I'm a top loin lover who always orders it if it's on the menu lol. It's thick, so I was excited from the look of it.

How was the tenderloin katsu at Kkot Gatsu?
The tenderloin katsu was really tender, rich and clean-tasting. I'm a huge fan of light flavors, so I really enjoyed it.
The meat was so tender that it was comfortable to chew. I've been to many great tonkatsu places in Seoul, and this honestly rivals them. It stayed tender and juicy to the very end haha. If you like tender tonkatsu, you must order the tenderloin!!

Does Kkot Gatsu's icy cold soba go well with tonkatsu?
The cold soba broth was cool and not too sweet, which I liked. It had a savory depth that was clearly different from typical cold soba.
It also leaves your mouth feeling fresh and goes so well with crispy tonkatsu haha. On a hot day, pairing it with tonkatsu is a must.

My favorite top loin! One bite: crispy outside, juicy and rich inside, with a perfect balance of fat and lean meat. The more I chewed, the more juice and flavor came through. Really delicious.
The breading was also a moderate thickness, not too thick, crispy and letting the meat's own flavor shine. The distinctive richness of top loin was very satisfying.
I wondered whether to order the cold soba, and it was totally the right choice! It's cool and cuts the greasiness of tonkatsu, a perfect combo haha. In summer, cold soba is the best.

Kkot Gatsu rice, miso soup and salad
These are the salad, soup and rice that came with the top loin katsu. The rice was perfectly cooked and fluffy, and the warm soup settled my stomach. The salad is a must to eat with tonkatsu! There's a generous amount of salad, which I love

How to dip Kkot Gatsu tonkatsu
The sauces are the default tonkatsu sauce, two kinds of salt and wasabi. My favorite is putting wasabi on it and dipping in tonkatsu sauce! Dipping in just salt brings out the tonkatsu's own flavor even more, which I liked.

Top loin has a good meat-to-fat ratio, so it's my favorite cut and I always order it at tonkatsu places haha. Places with too much fat can feel a bit greasy, but this time it was a success. So rich and it melted in my mouth 🙌

Is Kkot Gatsu's tenderloin worth it if you don't usually like tenderloin?
Even I, who didn't like tenderloin originally, kept reaching for Kkot Gatsu's tenderloin as much as the top loin. A good place really is different! It was so tender and rich that I kept going back for more haha. This place showed me the charm of tenderloin tonkatsu.

Tonkatsu is great for protein too, and this was light and crispy and so good! Number one among the tonkatsu I've had in Dongtan 👍 Kkot Gatsu in Mokdong, Dongtan is a tonkatsu spot good for lunch, dates or eating solo.
