In short

What are the dinner omakase price and course like?

Wanting a quiet meal for a special occasion, I booked the dinner omakase at Danya at Seoul Garden Hotel. It was ₩85,000 per person when I visited. With steamed abalone, sushi, cooked dishes, and a final meal in the calm atmosphere of the hotel, I felt the price was reasonable for the course.

The course moved through three appetizers, steamed abalone, sashimi, two rounds of five kinds of sushi, cooked dishes, a meal, and dessert.

Where is Danya, and how did I handle reservations and parking?

Danya is on B1 of Seoul Garden Hotel at 58 Mapo-daero, Mapo-gu, Seoul. Since it operates entirely by reservation, we booked the dinner omakase in advance through Naver.

At first, I thought we had to enter exactly at our reservation time, so we waited outside, but we were able to go in 10 minutes early that day. Diners can park free for three hours.

The hours listed in the original post are 12:00–22:00 from Monday through Saturday. The break is 15:00–18:00, last order is at 21:00, and it is regularly closed every Sunday.

What are the seating atmosphere and basic setting like?

The restaurant was quiet and calm. There was a counter where you could eat in front of the chef, as well as a separate room-style space partly screened by a wall. Dungulle tea was served as the basic tea.

The drink selection was varied, including whiskey, red and white wine, sake, champagne, highballs, premium soju, and bottled beer. We ordered Zero Cola and a 200 ml Kirin draft beer.

Which appetizers and sushi stood out?

The appetizers were steamed egg, tomato compote, and fig cream cheese. What stood out most was the steamed abalone topped with abalone sauce. The sauce was smooth, and I wanted to have it again.

There were 10 pieces of sushi in total. They included yellowtail, barley trout, flounder fin, fatty bluefin tuna, flounder, gamtae (seaweed) with sea urchin roe, and futomaki (thick sushi roll); each one tasted fresh and good to me. It was also enjoyable to eat them right away while watching the chef prepare them and listening to the explanations.

A miso soup with crab came first to accompany the sushi. Its refreshing flavor made it nice to sip between pieces.

That day, we also received an encore service that let us choose and have one favorite piece of sushi again. My boyfriend and I both chose the gamtae and sea urchin roe sushi.

How were the meal and dessert after the sushi?

The salmon steak served as a cooked dish was tender. After that, I had rice topped with braised croaker and udon. The udon noodles felt like fresh noodles, and their mild flavor kept me reaching for more.

Dessert was fig cream cheese and chilled green tea. The green tea was good for cleansing my palate, but because I do not like cheese, I found the dessert a little disappointing.

Would I return for an anniversary meal?

I was satisfied with having everything from steamed abalone and sushi to salmon steak and a final meal in a quiet setting. The ₩85,000 price at the time of my visit also felt reasonable considering the course. Next time, I would like to return with my parents or for an anniversary.
