Hapjeong Thai restaurant: hearty pad thai and tom yum, Saeng Augustine

In short

Saeng Augustine Hapjeong Branch is a Thai restaurant on the B1 level of Mecenatpolis near Hapjeong Station in Mapo, Seoul. On a weekend lunch with her mom, the writer booked through Naver and ordered king prawn pad thai, tom yum goong with extra noodles and a mangosteen juice for ₩52,000, and the portions were so large they were too full to order anything more. Saeng Augustine Hapjeong Branch is worth recommending for a generous family lunch of Thai food.

Do you need a reservation for weekend lunch at Saeng Augustine Hapjeong Branch?

Around 1 p.m. on a weekend, a waiting line forms right away, so it's best to book on Naver before you go. The inside is clean and spacious, so it's also a good spot for a group dinner.

I booked on Naver, and I was so glad I did. Around 1 p.m. a line formed immediately. If you're visiting on a weekend or around lunchtime, I strongly recommend booking on Naver ahead of time.

On the weekend there were definitely lots of families. There are baby chairs too, so people with kids can eat comfortably :)

I tried the phu phong curry here last time and it was seriously delicious. Recommended if you love phu phong curry!

Drink menu with Stella draft beer and goryangju

For drinks, there's Stella draft beer and goryangju (Chinese sorghum liquor). It's a nice place to come in the evening for a glass of goryangju too.

What Mom and I ordered, and the price

The two of us ordered king prawn pad thai, tom yum (+ extra noodles) and a mangosteen juice, and it came to ₩52,000. The portions here are really, truly huge, and even this much left us stuffed.

  • King prawn pad thai
  • Tom yum (+ extra noodles)
  • Mangosteen juice

I'd planned to order more if it wasn't enough... but the portions here are really, really big. Seriously, so big! So keep that in mind when you order. In the end we were stuffed and couldn't order anything else.

and there are lots of ade options for drinks, but we ordered the mangosteen juice :) It's sweet and tasty.

Table set with the dishes the two of us ordered

We ordered this much for two and I thought I'd burst... Honestly, even just the pad thai alone could fill two women.

How is the king prawn pad thai?

I had the king prawn pad thai last time too, and it was really good again this time. My mom loved it! When you eat it, squeeze a little lemon over it and the flavor really comes alive.

Add chili pepper to taste, depending on how spicy you want it.

This pad thai has king prawns, and it's also loaded with cocktail shrimp. There are plenty of bean sprouts too, so the texture was nice.

Tom yum with a sweet and sour broth
Mountain of rice noodles from the extra noodle add-on

Is the extra noodle add-on for tom yum worth it?

The sweet, sour and tangy broth of the tom yum (tom yum kung, spicy-sour shrimp soup) is excellent. I added extra noodles in case it wasn't enough, and they gave us a mountain of noodles, hahaha.

They're thin rice noodles, and when you put them in the broth they soak up the flavor quickly and are easy to slurp down. Thanks to that, we really stuffed ourselves here.

The tom yum has so many ingredients that you'd be full even without the extra noodles. But skipping the noodles would feel like a letdown too..

Don't miss the review event vegetable spring roll

The vegetable spring roll I got from the review event is 1.5 times the size of a regular spring roll! So even just one is super filling.

Large vegetable spring roll received from the review event

It's really tasty dipped in chili sauce. If you turn on notifications on Naver, there's also a coupon for a free vegetable spring roll, so grab it before you visit.

Do I recommend Saeng Augustine Hapjeong Branch as a Thai restaurant in Hapjeong?

If you're looking for a great Thai restaurant in Hapjeong, I strongly recommend Saeng Augustine Hapjeong Branch. Pad thai, tom yum, phu phong curry, none of them disappoints, and above all the portions are really generous, so it's good value too.

My mom was thrilled with it, so we plan to visit again. Be sure to book on Naver, and don't forget to turn on notifications to get the vegetable spring roll coupon!
