Jongak Station izakaya lunch set with chicken nanban: Suksseong Susan

Suksseong Susan Jongno Main Branch is an aged-sashimi restaurant and izakaya on the 3rd floor at 16 Samil-daero 19-gil in Jongno, Seoul, a short walk from Jongak Station. On a rainy day the writer and two friends took a private room for the lunch specials — teuk kaisendon (premium sashimi rice bowl) and the chicken nanban set — with a Suntory highball, ordered from a kiosk at the table. Even the friend who doesn't like raw fish was happy, making Suksseong Susan a quiet pick for a friends' lunch in Jongno.

Gwanghwamun café rainy-day mom meetup on the 2nd floor: Lemangdoré

Lemangdoré Gwanghwamun is a 3-floor bakery café on Mugyo-ro between City Hall and Gwanghwamun stations in Jung-gu, Seoul. On a rainy morning at 10am, mom friends gathered on the 2nd floor to share warm and iced Americanos, a latte, and an ₩8,800 pistachio croissant. The spacious, cozy 2nd floor beat the 1st floor for long chats.
