Eel restaurant with indoor smoking room in Gangseo: Jangsuchon

In short

Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel is a grilled eel restaurant on the second floor of the food alley by Exit 3 of Balsan Station in Gangseo, Seoul. A friend and I shared 1kg of salt-grilled eel (59,000 won) with the complimentary jangchu-tang (eel bone soup) and eel broth that come with it, and on a hot day the kitchen grilled it for us in advance so there was no sweating over the fire. With a self-serve banchan bar, an indoor smoking room and a coffee vending machine, Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel is an easy pick for group dinners.

Why Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel works for group dinners: big hall, coffee machine

The restaurant is very spacious and clean! Maybe that's why there were so many group parties the day I visited — I get why it's recommended as a group dinner spot near Balsan Station~ Since it's a menu that requires an open flame, it can get hot. But the staff thoughtfully turned on fans for us, so it wasn't hot at all and we could relax and enjoy ourselves! They're so kind ㅠㅠ♡ And there's also a coffee vending machine, so you can freshen up your palate afterward!

Plus, there's an indoor smoking room, which is great for smokers to use comfortably. The smoke doesn't leak outside, so non-smokers can enjoy the space comfortably too.

Here's the menu. Besides the eel that's the main dish at Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel, there's jangchu-tang to pair with it, Beolgyo cockle bibimbap, jjaglagi kimchi stew, perilla dumpling soup, grilled abalone, grilled king prawns, steamed/grilled scallops, and steamed oysters. And for dessert afterward, there's also jajangmyeon-style noodles. There's even beef short rib for people who don't eat eel, so I get why it's recommended as a group dinner spot near Balsan Station.

Table setting fee of 3,000 won per person: banchan bar and eel broth

The table setting fee is ₩3,000 per person. The basic side dishes served are garlic, ssamjang (soybean paste dip), yuzu salad, seasoned lettuce, ginger, perilla leaves, white kimchi, and lotus root. On top of that, you also get sauce and eel extract! The refreshing yuzu salad and seasoned lettuce were especially delicious for me. They were perfect for refreshing your palate right when things started to feel greasy! The eel extract wasn't bitter at all and was tasty enough to drink easily, great for boosting your health and vitality!

Eel extract sold at the counter

Eel extract is also sold at the counter, and it's said to help boost immunity, have anti-cancer effects, promote brain health, and reduce inflammation and slow aging. Great for treating your body well while eating deliciously.

If you need any extra side dishes, you can just grab more from the self-serve bar. Just take as much as you'll actually eat, okay?😇

How does the complimentary jangchu-tang taste?

You also get complimentary jangchu-tang (eel and vegetable soup), which had a savory flavor that kept me coming back for more. My friend who came with me enjoyed it a lot too, thumbs up! It tasted a bit like yukgaejang (spicy beef soup) and a bit like chueotang (loach soup), and it was packed with ingredients, so it was great to eat with rice too.

1kg of salt-grilled eel pre-grilled in the kitchen

Salt-grilled eel, 1kg for 59,000 won, grilled in the kitchen first

Salt-grilled eel is 1kg for ₩59,000. Since it was hot outside, they pre-grilled it in the kitchen and brought it out to us. To think they consider guests so carefully.. touching, truly touching..♡ Thanks to that we didn't have to sweat buckets grilling it ourselves, which was really, really convenient.

Since it's already grilled, you just grill it a bit more to your taste. We cooked ours a little longer. If it cools down while you're eating, you can put it back on the grill to warm it up again, which was nice.

It was delicious dipped in sauce and just as good plain. And you get way fuller than you'd expect!!! Filling and delicious, great for taking care of your health. And of course drinks can't be missing, right? Naturally we had drinks along with it, and it worked well both as a drinking snack and as a full meal.
