Jongno Korean restaurant for straw-fired octopus: Hyehwahwa

Hyehwahwa is a Korean pub-style restaurant in Jongno, Seoul, serving fusion Korean dishes par-cooked over straw fire. We had its smoky cauldron knife-cut noodles with octopus, crisp shrimp gangjeong, spicy clam soup, and citron makgeolli. Verdict: Hyehwahwa is a great match for a Korean drinking-food spread with real straw-fire aroma.

Seocho Korean BBQ with staff grilling: Sansol Sinsa Main Branch

Sansol Sinsa Main Branch is a Korean barbecue restaurant near Sinsa Station in Seocho, Seoul. I compared aged pork cuts in the ₩56,000 Signature Mountain Platter with a non-alcoholic highball and house sauce. Verdict: an easy pick for a Sinsa Station gathering when you want to focus on the meat, not the grill.
