Sinnonhyeon café, seasonal peach pie and tiramisu: Upper and Under
In short
Upper and Under is a large dessert café in Gangnam, Seoul, a 5-minute walk from Sinnonhyeon Station Exit 6. On a busy weekend afternoon the café was full and a seat opened up on the second floor, where the order came to an americano at 6,500 won, a salted caramel cream latte at 8,000 won, peach pie at 8,300 won and tiramisu at 8,500 won. Today I went to demolish some desserts at Upper and Under, a café near Sinnonhyeon Station that's known as a Gangnam dessert hotspot.
Where is Upper and Under, and what should you know first?

The exterior of Upper and Under

Upper and Under, a big Gangnam café 5 minutes on foot from Sinnonhyeon Station Exit 6, looked like a Ghibli-style forest cabin!!! The trees were pretty and the brick building was gorgeous, so tons of people were taking photos out front :-)
Inside seating: full on a weekend afternoon

The café spans B1, 1F, and 2F, but it was full ... // Luckily a seat opened up quickly on the 2nd floor and we sat down, but it was packed on the weekend afternoon!!! Being such a popular café, even snagging a seat was a challenge 🥺
Upper and Under menu: coffee and dessert lineup

There was a huge variety of coffee, cold brew, cream lattes, plus non-coffee and ade options too, so there was plenty to enjoy no matter your taste!!!

This place is famous as a Gangnam dessert spot, and wow, so many kinds of desserts!! The baked pastry lineup was seriously gorgeous, and I'm a total baked-pastry addict 😇 It was eye-popping haha

There were pies too — peach pie and choco banana pie, obviously delicious!! Choco + banana is a combo that's hard not to love, and kids would go crazy for it. The caramel pecan pie looked pretty tempting too.

The vanilla canelé and double vanilla canelé looked like they'd have that chewy texture down, and the pistachio canelé seemed popular too. The financiers looked tasty as well — so much trouble deciding what to get.
Lemon madeleine and sweet corn madeleine!!! The lemon one had a proper layer of icing, and the corn one had real corn kernels on top — this is clearly a legit dessert spot ~ ..

There were also three kinds of Basque cheesecake — vanilla, ube, and hwangchi cheese (aged yellow cheese)!!! The hwangchi cheese one came with crumble on top, and I bet it'd be great with an iced americano :-)

There's also tiramisu, lemon cake, raspberry cake, yangzhi gamlu (a Cantonese pomelo-and-sago dessert), and mango cake — visually stunning stuff. The yangzhi gamlu especially is a popular pick and there were only a few left.
What we ordered and what it cost
- Americano 6.5
- Salted caramel 8.0
- Peach pie 8.3
- Tiramisu 8.5

I ordered one americano and a salted caramel cream latte, plus tiramisu and peach pie. I'd already eaten a full meal but you know, dessert stomach is a separate stomach 🥧!!!

I ordered the americano iced, and it hit the spot on a hot day — swept the heat right away. The beans were good so the americano was good too, and I liked that they weren't the sour-tasting kind :)

The salted caramel cream latte I ordered had a proper sweet-and-salty cream that really lived up to its name. It also had cookie crumble and a cookie on top, which went well with the latte — and the latte itself had a rich nutty flavor, loved it!!
How does the seasonal peach pie taste?

The peach pie, made with peaches at peak sweetness right now, was an absolute visual boss :) I ordered the tiramisu the moment I saw it, totally spellbound. I was torn between the yangzhi gamlu, but I really craved the tiramisu-and-americano combo!!! 🌀
The peach pie had proper flaky layers, packed with cream and peach inside, and biting into actual peach chunks was so satisfying. The peaches themselves were super sweet, which made it even better, and the pie was crisp yet moist — very satisfied ★★★
Tiramisu with an iced americano

Tiramisu with an iced americano — need I say more -!!! The moist sponge just melted in my mouth, so good. It felt much softer than store-bought tiramisu — no chewy texture at all, just melted away.

It was sweet but not overly so, so it paired perfectly with the iced americano, and it went well with the cream latte I ordered too. The sponge itself was so moist that I wanted to try the other cake options as well :)

I'll wrap up by strongly recommending Upper and Under, a big Gangnam dessert café, as a great date spot near Sinnonhyeon Station.
