Gwanggyo fruit cake café: Einspänner & fruit slice to go, Café Diaz

Café Diaz Galleria Gwanggyo is a fresh-fruit cake café in the B1 food hall of Galleria Gwanggyo, near Gwanggyojungang Station in Suwon. The writer took home an iced Einspänner, a hot green tea latte and a fruit slice cake (₩11,900). The cake arrived without collapsing and had so much fruit that it was plenty for two to share. Café Diaz Galleria Gwanggyo is a handy Gwanggyo stop for fresh-fruit cake and cream coffee in one trip.

Match-day pork kimchi grill near Suwon World Cup Stadium: Sarangjip

Sarangjip (사랑집) is a single-menu pork kimchi grill restaurant in an alley off the Ajou University three-way intersection in Paldal-gu, Suwon. The writer walked in for dinner as a pair without a reservation, ordered the small pork kimchi grill (19,000 won), wrapped it in perilla leaves with pickled radish and mayonnaise, and finished with fried rice; many diners wore football jerseys, which suggested Sarangjip is a good stop on Suwon World Cup Stadium match days. With smoky flavour, tangy-spicy kimchi and fair prices, Sarangjip is worth recommending for students, family meals and dinner before or after a match.

Jonggak Korean lunch for two: Shin Ramyun-spicy octopus, Bonghyejane

Bonghyejane Jubang Jongno Tower branch (봉혜자네주방) is a Korean restaurant specialising in fire-grilled octopus stir-fry, on basement level 2 of Jongno Tower in Jongno, Seoul, with a direct underground link to Jonggak Station. Two diners ordered two octopus stir-fry sets (16,000 won each) plus flat dumplings; the 'less spicy' level, described as about as hot as Shin Ramyun, made choosing easy, and the smoky, plump octopus, mushroom perilla soup and crispy flat dumplings stood out. Bonghyejane Jubang is an easy, rain-free Korean lunch at Jonggak Station, recommended for solo diners and pairs alike.
