Yeoju IC makguksu restaurant with half-and-half dumplings: Seorak

In short

Seorak Makguksu Chuncheon Dakgalbi Yeoju IC Branch is a large restaurant right in front of the Yeoju IC exit in Gyeonggi, serving charcoal-grilled dakgalbi (grilled chicken) alongside makguksu (cold buckwheat noodles). This visit skipped the dakgalbi and ordered two bibim makguksu (spicy cold buckwheat noodles) plus a half-and-half plate of buckwheat pheasant dumplings and buckwheat kimchi dumplings; the chewy noodles and tangy sauce matched well, and the dumplings turned it into a filling meal. With a wide parking lot and seating for about 100, Seorak Makguksu is an easy stop on the way back from Yeoju Premium Outlets or a nearby golf course.

Whenever I have plans to visit Yeoju, I like to scout out a good place to eat beforehand. This time I went to Seorak Makguksu Chuncheon Dakgalbi Yeoju IC Branch, located right near the Yeoju IC exit.

I'd heard it was well known among people searching for Yeoju restaurants or restaurants near Yeoju Outlets, and sure enough, when I visited it was packed with customers. I went right around mealtime and the place was full — clearly there's a reason so many people come here.

Where is Seorak Makguksu Chuncheon Dakgalbi Yeoju IC Branch, and is there parking?

It's easy to find right after exiting Yeoju IC, and there's a spacious parking lot right in front of the restaurant, so I didn't have to worry about parking at all. It's also about a 5-minute drive from Yeoju Premium Outlets, which makes it a good spot to grab a meal after shopping at the outlets.

Since Yeoju also has quite a few golf courses — Namyeoju GC, Ferrum Club CC, Sophia Green CC, and Geumgang CC among them — this also looked like a convenient spot for golfers looking for a meal after a round.

Why we ordered two bibim makguksu instead of dakgalbi

This time we ordered two bowls of bibim makguksu plus a half-and-half order of buckwheat pheasant dumplings and buckwheat kimchi dumplings. The restaurant's signature dish is normally the charcoal-grilled dakgalbi, but this time we were more in the mood for makguksu and buckwheat dumplings, so we went with that instead.

A bowl of ordered bibim makguksu

We started with the bibim makguksu. With makguksu, you expect chewy noodles paired with a tangy, savory sauce, and this one delivered — the noodles and sauce came together nicely.

It seemed like the kind of dish that would pair especially well with dakgalbi or other meat dishes. I imagine eating a piece of charcoal-grilled dakgalbi alongside the bibim makguksu would be fantastic — the smoky charcoal flavor of the meat against the sweet-and-tangy noodles.

We didn't order dakgalbi this time, but next visit I'd definitely like to try the charcoal dakgalbi together with the bibim makguksu.

How did the half-and-half buckwheat pheasant and kimchi dumplings taste?

We also tried the side dish we ordered — the buckwheat pheasant dumplings and buckwheat kimchi dumplings, split half and half. It was nice being able to order them that way so we could taste both kinds at once.

The buckwheat pheasant dumplings had a clean, savory flavor, while the buckwheat kimchi dumplings, made with kimchi, were a bit spicier and had a refreshing finish. Bibim makguksu alone might have felt a little light, but adding the dumplings made it a much heartier meal.

The combination of makguksu and dumplings worked better than expected. Alternating bites of noodles and dumplings let us enjoy two very different flavors and textures.

Seating for 100: room for families and big groups

The restaurant was quite spacious. It's said to seat around 100 people, and even with the crowd during our visit, there was still a comfortable amount of room to eat.

I saw plenty of families dining together, and it looked like a fine spot for larger groups too. I especially liked the large parking area out front — in a place like Yeoju where most people drive, having easy parking really matters, and this restaurant delivered on that.

It seemed like a good stop either after visiting Yeoju Outlets or for lunch or dinner while traveling around Yeoju.

Which charcoal dakgalbi to try on the next visit

True to its name, Seorak Makguksu Chuncheon Dakgalbi Yeoju IC Branch lets you enjoy charcoal-grilled dakgalbi alongside makguksu. The dakgalbi is said to use 100% chicken thigh meat, grilled over charcoal. There's a seasoned version and a soy sauce version to choose from depending on your taste, and staff pre-grill the chicken before finishing it tableside for you, which makes for an easier meal overall.

Being right by Yeoju IC makes it easy to access, and it's also close to Yeoju Premium Outlets, so it seems like a solid option for anyone looking for restaurants near Yeoju Outlets.
