Pyeongchang gukbap for breakfast near Alpensia: Daegwallyeong Hanwoo
In short
Daegwallyeong Hanwoo Gopchang & Gukbap is a gukbap (rice-and-soup) restaurant in Daegwallyeong-myeon, Pyeongchang, a short drive from Alpensia Resort. On a family trip the writer ordered breakfast here — the large Daegwallyeong haejangguk (hangover soup), the large sogeori gukbap (ox-head soup with rice) and a child's portion — and found plenty of seonji (blood curd) and meat, with side dishes served warm as if just made. With a wide parking lot and generous space between tables, Daegwallyeong Hanwoo Gopchang & Gukbap is an easy breakfast stop with a young child.

Staying with my family at Alpensia Resort, I went looking for a gukbap place both my kid and husband would like, and landed on Daegwallyeong Hanwoo Gopchang & Gukbap. We're both a gukbap-for-breakfast family, so I searched it up. 🙂
When traveling, you end up looking for somewhere near your accommodation to get a solid meal, and this time I found a place that matched our family's taste for gukbap perfectly, so I was happy to visit.

Parking and seating at Daegwallyeong Hanwoo Gopchang & Gukbap: easy with a child
What I liked most was the large parking lot. When you're getting around with a kid, having easy parking actually matters a lot, and with plenty of space I felt no stress even before going in to eat. Daegwallyeong Hanwoo Gopchang & Gukbap is easy to visit by car, which should be especially good for families.

Inside, the seating overall felt spacious and roomy. The gaps between tables weren't cramped either, so it was comfortable eating with my child, and it had a relaxed atmosphere for families to sit and eat together.
When traveling, you're usually looking after a kid while eating, so cramped or busy seating can be uncomfortable — but here I could eat comfortably without that worry.

What we ordered, and the side dishes
Today we ordered the Daegwallyeong haejangguk (hangover soup) special and the sogeori gukbap (ox head soup with rice) special, plus a sogeori gukbap for my child.

Personally, the side dishes impressed me. At gukbap restaurants the banchan (side dishes) can sometimes feel like they were made ahead of time, but the ones served that day felt warm and fresh, as if freshly made. Pairing them with the gukbap made the meal feel even more substantial.

Daegwallyeong haejangguk (large): plenty of seonji blood curd
First, the Daegwallyeong haejangguk special had a hearty broth right from the start, and best of all, it came with plenty of sundae (blood sausage/blood curd). If you like sundae, the amount here would make you happy. The other ingredients inside were generous overall too — it wasn't just a lot of broth, the toppings were substantial!

True to being the special size, the portion was generous enough to fill you up quite well with just one bowl. When you're out and about sightseeing on a trip, your stomach can end up feeling empty, and having a hot bowl of gukbap like this in the morning felt like a proper meal.

Sogeori gukbap (large): a mild ox-head soup kids can eat
The sogeori gukbap special also came with plenty of ingredients. The savory broth and toppings worked well together, and it had the comforting flavor typical of a white (clear) gukbap, so even my child could eat it without any trouble. Rather than a spicy or intense flavor, it was the kind of dish that suits days when you want to pour rice into hot broth and eat something filling.

Why it's worth the short drive from Alpensia Resort
When traveling with a kid, taste matters, but so do parking convenience, spacious seating, and an easy, unfussy menu — and this place did well on all counts. The roomy seating made it comfortable to visit as a family, and the adults could eat a filling, warm bowl of gukbap too.
If you're staying at Alpensia Resort and looking for a filling meal nearby, it's worth a visit. The breakfast at Alpensia isn't great, honestly 😅 — so unless it's included in your stay, stop by here on your way out! Especially on a day during your Daegwallyeong trip when you're craving something hot and brothy, these dishes work well for breakfast or lunch.
