DMC noodle restaurant with a 5-minute lunch: Sangam Hoegwan

In short

Sangam Hoegwan is a kongguksu (chilled soy milk noodles) restaurant in the B1 food court of Sangam IT Tower in Sangam-dong, Mapo, Seoul, in the DMC district. Arriving just after the lunch rush, an order of three kongguksu, one perilla oil mil-myeon and an 8,000-won kimchi pancake with squid landed on the table in 5 minutes, and the kongguksu, made with contract-grown soybeans from Gangwon-do, was already seasoned enough to eat without salt or sugar. Sangam Hoegwan is an easy summer lunch for office workers around DMC.

A bowl of kongguksu, the signature dish at Sangam Hoegwan

Hi everyone! It's your food-loving reviewer here. :D It's been so hot lately that I keep losing my appetite, and sometimes I can't think of anything I want for lunch. If you work around Sangam-dong DMC (Digital Media City Station), there's a perfect summer dish for exactly this situation — cold kongguksu (chilled soy milk noodles)! This is hands-down the best kongguksu I've had around here, clean and delicious, at a place called Sangam Hoegwan. Let's go 😉

Where is Sangam Hoegwan, and what are the hours and parking?

Sangam Hoegwan is a Korean restaurant in the B1 food court of Sangam IT Tower at 434 World Cup buk-ro, Mapo-gu, Seoul. It's about a 7-minute walk from Exit 9 of Digital Media City Station (Line 6, Airport Railroad, Gyeongui-Jungang Line).

Crowd gathered outside Sangam Hoegwan

We arrived a bit after the lunch rush, so there were plenty of open seats. If you ever see a spot in this food court with a crowd of people, that's Sangam Hoegwan, the kongguksu place everyone loves 😊

Kiosk ordering and the Sangam IT Tower food court

Sangam Hoegwan takes orders through a kiosk, and after ordering, I got some ube soy milk as part of a review event. Sangam Hoegwan's soy milk is delicious too — a lot of people were taking it home, so I packed one to go as well.

Casual food court table seating

Since it's a food court, the vibe is fairly relaxed and casual, but the kongguksu itself is absolutely amazing.

Sangam Hoegwan menu and what we ordered

The menu at Sangam Hoegwan is short — kongguksu, perilla oil mil-myeon, kimchi bibim guksu, kimchi pancake, and a few others. We ordered 3 kongguksu, 1 perilla oil mil-myeon, and 1 kimchi pancake 😊

The food came out incredibly fast. Was it 5 minutes? 🤭 Seeing how quickly things come out when there's no crowd, I'd guess it wouldn't take long even during peak lunch hour. And when you're an office worker on your lunch break, fast is everything.

The perilla oil mil-myeon set

The perilla oil mil-myeon set came with two dumplings. There was so much roasted seaweed flakes on top that instead of the usual bland perilla-oil noodles, this one had a bit of savory saltiness — really tasty. Exactly the kind of dish that brings back your appetite in summer 🤗

Kongguksu made with domestic soybeans at Sangam Hoegwan

How does the kongguksu at Sangam Hoegwan taste?

And now for the star of the show — the kongguksu — it's genuinely delicious! 😋 A clean taste you wouldn't expect from a food court. I thought it would be thick and heavy, but it wasn't; the soy milk was just the right consistency and already lightly seasoned, so as someone who likes a mild, subtle flavor, I was happy eating it plain, without adding salt or sugar. I think it's the cleanest, most delicious kongguksu I've had recently...! Since they only use soybeans contract-grown in Gangwon-do, you could really taste the rich but clean flavor of domestic soybeans.

And we can't forget the kimchi pancake. Just an 8,000-won kimchi pancake, but it was packed with squid and fried up nice and crispy — really good.

Kimchi pancake with kongguksu is already a great combo, but the kimchi itself... oh man... it's so good. A rich, freshly-made geotjeori (fresh kimchi) flavor that pairs perfectly with kongguksu 🤭

Is Sangam Hoegwan a good summer lunch for DMC office workers?

This place was so good I feel like I need to come back for kongguksu again before summer ends. If you've lost your appetite in the summer heat, or if you have errands around DMC Sangam-dong, stop by for a bowl of cold kongguksu. That's it for my review of Sangam Hoegwan, a kongguksu spot that's perfect for a summer office lunch.
