Sous vide steak and lasagna for two at Pastiar, Yeonnam-dong

Pastiar is a Western-style restaurant that recently opened in Yeonnam-dong, Seoul, about 10 minutes on foot from Hongik University Station. Sous vide steak (₩27,000) and lasagna (₩22,000) came out with tomato sauce, carrot rapée and salad, and the cheese-pulling lasagna was plenty for two people to share. With its quiet European-style interior, it's an easy pick for a date or a first meeting.

After-work clear broth vs tomato broth shabu-shabu in Hapjeong

Nahonsha is a solo-pot shabu-shabu and sukiyaki restaurant between Hapjeong and Sangsu stations in Mapo, Seoul. Visiting after work on a weekday when the sukiyaki had sold out, the writer ordered and compared the clear broth (₩14,900) and tomato broth (₩15,900), finishing both with Australian beef, vegetables and kalguksu noodles. Mild, non-spicy broth and friendly service make this a spot worth returning to.
