Dessert café in Chang-dong, Seoul: red bean snow bingsu at Uisagye
In short
Uisagye (우이사계) is a red-brick dessert café in a converted house on the Uicheon stream in Chang-dong, Dobong-gu, Seoul, between Uije 3 Bridge and Changbeon Bridge. On a walk along Uicheon, the writer ordered the snow red bean bingsu (shaved ice, 10,500 won), the original chimney bread (5,500 won) and an iced americano (4,500 won); the whole red beans on the bingsu tasted premium, and the chimney bread arrived fresh and steaming. Uisagye is a great stop for summer desserts with a view of the Uicheon stream.

What kind of café is Uisagye in Chang-dong?
Uisagye (우이사계) is a great chimney bread spot on the Uicheon stream in Chang-dong, Dobong-gu, Seoul, between Uicheon Bridge 3 and Changbeon Bridge. It's a converted house with a modern interior and lovely atmosphere, so I recommend it as a dessert café in Dobong 💕

I'd been walking along Uicheon, and stepping into Uisagye felt so pleasant and cool. The staff are super friendly :D Pets are allowed and there are baby chairs too.
One tip: it gets really crowded at lunchtime, so if you want a quiet stay, come a bit later~

Uisagye seating and the feel of each floor
Uisagye has a spacious layout: a basement studio, a 1st floor with charming panoramic windows, and a 2nd floor with a cozy terrace. The ceilings are high and the seating is varied, so it never felt stuffy.
Traces of the old house remain on the pillars, and the bricks are left exposed, which looks stylish. They say it's a red brick house that holds the four seasons of Uicheon: the light green of spring, the sparkle of summer, the coloring time of autumn, the stillness of winter. 'Savor Your Season.'
This was the 2nd floor window seat overlooking a soothing green walking path. In the evening you can watch the quiet, sparkling stream, which is great for thinking. The red metal staircase is pretty too.
There are seats in the outdoor garden as well. A universe-crushingly cute little round baby was crying, so a parent was bringing them out here to calm down, haha (T_T)
How long does Uisagye's signature chimney bread take?

Uisagye's signature chimney bread (trdelník, a rolled pastry baked on a cylinder) is baked in the oven in-store from raw dough, so it takes about 5 minutes after ordering, and the cheese one takes 10–15 minutes. The flavors are original, cinnamon, chocolate and cheese, at ₩5,500–6,000. There's also a chimney gimbap (seaweed rice roll) with Emmental cheese, arugula and jambon-beurre.
The freshly baked chimney bread is crazy good, totally my style~~ I saw some people just getting it to go.

Such pretty plants 🪴
The 2nd floor outdoor terrace seems like it would be cool when the evening breeze blows. If you don't like air conditioning, sit here and enjoy the lovely green view that calms your mind (* ´ ▽ ` *)
The tables and chairs are wide, so sitting is comfy. A breeze blows through~ The modern black tables and sofas and the panoramic window with dark green trees make you feel close to nature, which is so charming! Also great for meetups 👍

The chimney bread is made by rolling dough around a cylinder and baking it, and tearing it apart along the layers is pure bliss.

They also have cakes and kids' drinks (juice).
Is Uisagye a good café to visit alone?

The Wi-Fi is strong at Uisagye and they keep books around, so I read one.

The daily-life webtoon by Jogumaen Brachio is so charming, haha. Quite a lot of people came alone too,, so enjoy Uisagye as a solo café.
Uisagye pet policy for dogs
At Uisagye, dogs can stay on the 2nd floor terrace, and when moving around you need to put them in a carrier or hold them in your arms.
- Small dogs up to 10kg ✔️
- Fully vaccinated ✔️
- Harness and leash on ✔️
Uisagye menu and coffee bean options

Uisagye's chimney bread (trdlo) can be had with Sanghamokjang milk ice cream, or in cinnamon and chocolate versions! Dipping sauces come in fresh cream and cream cheese, and they were running an event giving one for joining in with a Naver review.
Drinks include coffee, lemonicano (lemon + iced americano 🍋), omija (five-flavor berry) ade, and a Sanghamokjang milk ice cream latte. They're sweet and refreshing, a good pick for summer.

At Uisagye you can choose your beans! There's decaf too.
- Matte Black: nutty almond + dark chocolate
- Strawberry Pink Blend: washed fruity berry, honey, natural
- Decaf: fragrant tangerine + pistachio + peanut
What I ordered at Uisagye
- Snow red bean bingsu ₩10,500
- Iced americano ₩4,500
- Chimney bread (original) ₩5,500
How the fresh original chimney bread tastes
Fresh, steaming hot chimney bread is love 🫶 The buttery aroma and soft dough are really delicious. With coffee, I don't even need to say it, it's a honey-sweet combo.
They give you tongs and scissors, but I feel it tastes better tearing it by hand~ haha. It's a round cylinder, crisp outside, with a sweet caramelized aroma.

A fun bread time with toppings like cinnamon, chocolate and caramel!

What does Uisagye's snow red bean bingsu taste like?
Uisagye's snow red bean bingsu (₩10,500) has plump whole red beans and soft milk snow ice, topped with sweet condensed milk and chewy injeolmi (rice cake with roasted soybean powder) monaka. It isn't too sweet and tastes great. It melts in your mouth.

The red beans are in really good condition, so it tastes premium. I recommend it as this summer's dessert! It'd be nice to bring your mom too 🤭 Crunch, gone in a flash, it puts you in a good mood~~

Uisagye restrooms and basement group seating

The hand-washing area is outside the restroom at Uisagye, which is hygienic.

The basement has plush sofas and a cozy furniture-showroom feel. For groups of three or more, the basement is best. It looks like a tidy family home (Gajeong).

A spot with one potted plant and light coming in is pretty too.
