Yeouido Station walkway tteokbokki: dog-friendly patio, Hyeonseonine

In short

Hyeonseonine Premium IFC Mall Branch is a tteokbokki (spicy rice cake) snack bar halfway along the underground moving walkway that runs from Yeouido Station Exit 3 to IFC Mall and The Hyundai Seoul in Yeouido, Seoul. Around 3 p.m. on a weekday, the Hyeonseonine Combo Set (25,000 won) ordered mild brought wheat-flour tteokbokki, fried snacks, fish cake, mini gimbap (seaweed rice rolls) and sundae (Korean blood sausage) with offal, and even a diner who can't handle spice enjoyed it. For a generous plate of the tteokbokki you've wondered about while passing through the walkway, the Hyeonseonine Combo Set at Hyeonseonine Premium IFC Mall Branch is a satisfying choice.

Today's place is a Yeouido tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) favorite: Hyeonseonine Premium IFC Mall Branch (현선이네 프리미엄 IFC몰점).

Hyeonseonine Premium IFC Mall Branch shop in Yeouido

Every time I take the Yeouido Station underground passage to IFC Mall or The Hyundai Seoul, I pass this tteokbokki shop in the middle of the moving walkway and wonder about it. Well, I finally tried it! Let's get started~

Where is Hyeonseonine Premium IFC Mall Branch, and what are the hours?

Hyeonseonine location beside the moving walkway in the Yeouido Station underground passage

Hyeonseonine Premium IFC Mall Branch is about halfway along the moving walkway from Yeouido Station Exit 3 to IFC Mall or The Hyundai Seoul. When you're almost at IFC Mall, you'll see Hyeonseonine next to a GS25 convenience store, so it isn't hard to find.

Hyeonseonine is said to be one of Seoul's top three tteokbokki spots, and it started in Yongsan.

Indoor seating and outdoor tables at Hyeonseonine: are dogs allowed?

Inside Hyeonseonine IFC Mall Branch with tables for 2 to 4

Inside, there were lots of tables for 2 to 4 people, and the spacing between them was fairly tight. We visited around 3 p.m. on a weekday and it was still quite busy.

There are also outdoor tables between Hyeonseonine and the GS25, and you can eat there too. Dogs are allowed at the outdoor tables, so keep that in mind~

Hyeonseonine tteokbokki menu and how to order

The menu has two sections, regular tteokbokki and instant (cook-at-the-table) tteokbokki, and there were plenty of set menus too.

You can order instant tteokbokki at indoor tables, but at the outdoor tables only the regular tteokbokki menu is available.

If you write a review on Naver, Google or Daum, they give you either a fried rice cake or a savory mayo rice ball as a free extra, so go for it~

Hyeonseonine self-serve bar with small plates and pickled radish

There's also a self-serve bar in one corner. If you're eating at the outdoor tables, grab small plates, disposable aprons, tissues, pickled radish and water here. We made sure to get the pickled radish, which is a must with tteokbokki.

How did the Hyeonseonine Combo Set taste?

Hyeonseonine Combo Set served first, without the sundae

The Hyeonseonine Combo Set includes tteokbokki, fried snacks, sundae (Korean blood sausage), gimbap and fish cake, and they told us the sundae takes a little while. So they brought out everything except the sundae first.

Tteokbokki and sides in the Hyeonseonine Combo Set

Mild wheat-flour tteokbokki

Let's start with the main dish, the tteokbokki.

Hyeonseonine mild tteokbokki

You can choose mild or spicy. We ordered mild, and even a spice wimp like me could enjoy it.

Sauce-soaked flour-cake tteokbokki at Hyeonseonine

The rice cakes were the flour kind, nice and chewy, with the sauce soaked all the way through.

Assorted fried snacks in the Hyeonseonine Combo Set

Crispy assorted fried snacks

The fried snacks in the combo set came in a nice variety and nice and crispy. There was squid fry, and there was gimmari (glass-noodle seaweed roll), and there were dumplings, and sweet potato fry, and vegetable fry too.

Fish cake and mini gimbap

The combo set also included fish cake.

Fish cake and broth included in the Hyeonseonine Combo Set

The fish cake was soft and tasty, and taking a sip of the hot fish cake broth between bites of tteokbokki was just right.

Then the mini gimbap (seaweed rice rolls) came out. The bite-size rolls don't seem to have much in them, but they tasted great eaten with the tteokbokki.

Sundae with offal, served last

After a little while, the sundae finally arrived.

The sundae completes the Hyeonseonine Combo Set, so of course we had to take a shot of the whole spread!

When you order sundae at Hyeonseonine, they ask whether you want offal included. I love offal, so I chose the option with offal.

Sundae ordered with offal included

Sundae is tteokbokki's partner, and this one had no off smell at all, just sticky and chewy, a perfect match for the tteokbokki. You all know that dipping sundae in tteokbokki sauce is a dream pairing, right? And you know fried snacks taste even better soaked in the sauce, right? Finally, dipping the mini gimbap in the sauce too was pure heaven.

Is Hyeonseonine Premium IFC Mall Branch worth it?

The Hyeonseonine Combo Set is a well-rounded snack set, from tteokbokki to sundae, fried snacks, fish cake and gimbap, so it felt generous and satisfying. If you're looking for a good tteokbokki place in Yeouido, I recommend Hyeonseonine Premium IFC Mall Branch~
