Korean BBQ in Hongdae with a diced rice finish: Gogikkun Gimchunbae

In short

Gogikkun Gimchunbae Hongdae Supgil Branch is a Korean BBQ restaurant in Mapo, Seoul, looking out over Gyeongui Line Forest Park, where you can eat both Korean beef (hanwoo) and Korean pork (handon). Staff grilled the meat at the table, so the meal stayed relaxed and conversational, and it ended generously with half-and-half naengmyeon (cold noodles) and kkakdukbap (diced rice). A scenic, easygoing dinner that pairs well with a walk along the forest path afterward.

This time I wanted to enjoy the atmosphere along with the meat, so I visited Gogikkun Gimchunbae Hongdae Supgil Branch. The Gyeongui Line Forest Park is right in front, so it's a Hongdae Korean BBQ spot where you can eat while looking out at a pretty forest path view.

The staff grilled the meat for us, so we didn't have to worry about the grilling and could just chat and eat comfortably. Especially once the weather cools down, the outdoor seats let you enjoy that full open-air grill-spot vibe — I thought it'd suit anyone looking for an atmospheric Hongdae date restaurant too.

We had a hearty meal, from a set with both beef and pork to naengmyeon (cold noodles) and diced rice at the end.

We ordered the beef/pork set for two that day (pork neck 250g + short rib 200g + today's beef 150g, 600g total). At 600g total, it's a pretty generous amount for two people.

The basic side dishes include shredded scallion, mountain garlic leaves, and bean sprouts — all good to pair with the meat — along with ssamjang, salt, and garlic sauce.

The meat arrived ✨ Wow, it looked seriously appetizing from the start. The Korean beef especially had marbling so vivid it made my mouth water.

And one of the most comfortable parts here was that staff grilled the meat for us. Grilling meat always comes with that nagging worry about timing and having to keep flipping it, but with the staff grilling it, we could just eat comfortably ❤️

Watching the meat turn golden brown as we waited, the marbling in the beef melting and giving off that savory aroma, made me want to dig in fast.

I tried the beef first with just a dab of salt, and you could really taste the beef's savory juices and tender texture cleanly — great on its own. The beef was... well, I'll spare the words ❤️

The chewy, mild pork neck tasted even better with minari (water dropwort) added — a fragrant, distinctive touch — and with shredded scallion on top, the sharp bite kept it from getting greasy, so I kept eating. You could really tell the staff-grilled meat came out juicy and well-cooked. There's a reason this place is known as a Hongdae Korean BBQ spot.

Adding some golden-grilled kimchi on top gave a tangy, salty edge that paired perfectly with the meat — so good! I ate it wrapped with mountain garlic leaves, plain, and in all sorts of combinations.

Half-and-half naengmyeon, mul and bibim

For the naengmyeon, we ordered the half-and-half version. Perfect for anyone who wants both mul-naengmyeon (cold noodle soup) and bibim-naengmyeon (spicy mixed cold noodles) ❤️

We wrapped meat into both the bibim and the mul-naengmyeon. The bibim was spicy, so that was my personal favorite, and the mul-naengmyeon was refreshing too, with icy slush and crisp julienned radish on top.

Diced rice made with kkakdugi and meat

Last, we ordered the BBQ-restaurant dessert — fried rice, or rather diced rice. It's a dish made by frying diced kimchi (kkakdugi) together with meat, and the crisp texture plus the mild meat pieces mixed in kept us eating even after we were full. You have to try the diced rice as a finishing dish!!

Final verdict on a Korean BBQ meal with a forest path view

This visit to Gogikkun Gimchunbae Hongdae Supgil Branch let us enjoy a variety of Korean beef and pork while eating comfortably, since the staff grilled the meat for us. I especially loved the atmosphere with the Gyeongui Line Forest Park visible right from our table.

Getting to enjoy delicious meat alongside a pretty forest path view made it feel a bit more relaxed than a typical BBQ restaurant. Once the weather cools down a bit more, I imagine it'll feel even better sitting outside with that open-air grilling atmosphere while facing the forest park, so I'd like to come back next time for the outdoor seats.

Between the taste of the meat and the atmosphere, this is a place I'd recommend to anyone looking for a Hongdae restaurant, a comfortable Hongdae Korean BBQ spot, or an open-air grill spot!
