Gyoza bar near Sangsu Station for canned-beer takeout: MANDOO BAR
In short
MANDOO BAR is a gyoza dining bar on the 2nd floor of Eoullimadang-ro on Hongdae's Red Road in Mapo, Seoul. The writer took out MANDOO BAR gyoza (9,000 won) and steamed dumplings (8 for 8,000 won), each half meat and half kimchi, to go with a canned beer: the crisp-bottomed gyoza suited drinking, and the steamed dumplings with chewy dried radish worked as a meal or snack. MANDOO BAR's takeout is tasty, but its open-window 2nd-floor bar is the place to enjoy dumplings with a drink.

MANDOO BAR's 2nd-floor atmosphere and window seats
The shop is on the 2nd floor with big open windows, so the breeze drifts in, and the mood is cozy yet casual. The bar table is good for dining solo, and the tables for 2–4 were nice for a slow meal with friends or a date.

Group dinners at MANDOO BAR: reserve ahead
The space is roomy enough to be rented out, so for a group of 5 or more or a company dinner, I'd recommend booking before you go.

MANDOO BAR menu and prices
MANDOO BAR felt less like an ordinary dumpling shop and more like a dining bar where dumplings are treated as dishes to enjoy with drinks.

Besides gyoza (pan-fried dumplings) and steamed dumplings, there are dumpling hot pots and jeyuk (spicy stir-fried pork) that work as a meal or a drinking snack, plus drinks like highballs and draft beer.

I got takeout this time and didn't eat in, but after seeing the 2nd floor, taking it away was actually a pity. I want to go back and properly feel the vibe of this fusion dumpling bar.

At this Hongdae gyoza spot you get traditional dumplings and also twisted fusion items like taco gyoza.

How were MANDOO BAR's gyoza and steamed dumplings as takeout?
I ordered MANDOO BAR gyoza (₩9,000) and steamed dumplings (8 for ₩8,000) to go, both packed half meat, half kimchi.

Steamed dumplings with chewy dried radish
The steamed dumplings had glossy wrappers from the start, and the filling with dried radish strips (mumallaengi) had a nice chew, so they were easy to eat at home as a meal or a snack.

Signature gyoza: crisp bottom, moist top
The signature gyoza has a crisp seared bottom with a moist, tender top, which makes it perfect as a drinking snack.

I ended up cracking open a canned beer, and the crispy, salty gyoza went really well with it.

Takeout or dine in at MANDOO BAR?
MANDOO BAR is a distinctive Hongdae gyoza spot where dumplings aren't just a meal; you can drift between dinner and a drinking session as you like. Takeout is plenty tasty, but personally I'd recommend enjoying dumplings and drinks in the 2nd-floor shop, where you also get the dining-bar atmosphere.
