Premium Gyukatsu Gyudo Mapo Gongdeok Main Branch (프리미엄 규카츠 규도 마포공덕 본점) is a gyukatsu restaurant near Mapo Station and Gongdeok Station where you grill crispy fried beef yourself on a personal hearth. When you want good food and a good atmosphere near Mapo Station, it's hard to decide where to go, right?

Here's a place I always end up at when I have plans in Mapo. Today it's Premium Gyukatsu Gyudo Mapo Gongdeok Main Branch, where you can enjoy gyukatsu in a different way.

Unlike a regular pork cutlet, the beef is fried crisp and then grilled by you on a personal hearth, so eating it is part of the fun. The look is clean and stylish, so it's great for a solo meal and also for a special dinner with a partner. If you're looking for a Mapo Station restaurant or a date spot in Mapo, take a look.
Gyudo location, parking and opening hours
Gyudo Mapo Gongdeok Main Branch is in the basement level (B1) of the Obelisk apartment shops at 33 Mapo-daero, Mapo-gu, Seoul.

It's close to Exits 1 and 2 of Mapo Station, so it's easy to reach by public transport. Heading toward Exit 2 makes the restaurant easier to find.
You can use the building's parking lot if you drive, and Naver reservations are available too.

Atmosphere: good for solo meals and dates?
With Japanese-style interior and both table seats and counter (dacchi) seats, Gyudo feels comfortable for solo diners and couples alike. As soon as I walked in, the Japanese-feeling interior caught my eye.

Overall it's tidy and clean, so it's easy to relax over a meal. Besides table seats, there are counter seats that suit one person, so it looked good for eating alone too.

It's neither too casual nor overly formal, so I thought it would be a nice place to visit with a partner.

The location, the atmosphere and the taste of the food all satisfied me. So I'd like to recommend it to anyone looking for a date spot in Mapo.
What comes in the Gyudo gyukatsu set?
The gyukatsu set at Gyudo Mapo Gongdeok Main Branch is a full tray with gyukatsu, rice and side dishes, plus a personal hearth. Since I'd come to a gyukatsu restaurant, I ordered the gyukatsu set.

The neatly arranged gyukatsu, rice and side dishes made for a hearty meal. What impressed me most was that a personal hearth comes with it.

You grill the meat yourself right before eating, which gives it a different charm from an ordinary pork cutlet restaurant.

How do you grill gyukatsu on the personal hearth?
At Gyudo, you put a little gyukatsu at a time on the personal hearth and cook it to the doneness you like.

Even the sizzling as the meat cooked on the hearth looked delicious. The crisp outside and tender beef inside come together, and you really get what makes gyukatsu special.

Sauce, wasabi or soy-marinated egg: how each dip tastes
The gyukatsu set lets you alternate between three dips: sauce, wasabi and soy-marinated egg (gyeranjang). Dipped in the sauce, the savory depth comes out, and with wasabi it tastes even cleaner.

Dipped in the soy-marinated egg, it gets a nutty richness and a whole different flavor. And since you grill only as much as you eat, it stays warm to the very last bite, which I liked.

It was fun to eat it the way I liked, using the different sauces.

I had rice and side dishes with it and finished with nurungji (scorched-rice) tea, which made the meal even more filling.
Final verdict on Gyudo Mapo Gongdeok Main Branch
Gyudo Mapo Gongdeok Main Branch lets you enjoy both the fun of grilling it yourself and the flavor of gyukatsu.

I also liked the clean interior and the neat composition of the meal. It suits days when you want to eat comfortably alone, and days when you want a special dish with your partner.
