Pasta set for two in the 50,000s at Hongdae restaurant Omil, Seoul

In short

Omil Hongdae is a casual Western-style restaurant on the second floor of an alley building two minutes from Exit 4 of Hongik University Station in Mapo, Seoul. On a weekday evening with no wait, the set menu for two (two mains, one side and two drinks, in the 50,000 won range) brought rubber duck omurice at 16,900 won, spicy seafood oil pasta and buckwheat soba maki, and the rubber duck and tube mascots that decorate the omurice came home as a gift. Omil Hongdae is a date spot where the cute plating is matched by the cooking.

Omil Hongdae: a second-floor Western restaurant 2 minutes from Hongik University Station Exit 4

Omil Hongdae main image

A date restaurant I found in Hongdae — Omil Hongdae. It's packed with cute, detailed touches everywhere and the food was genuinely good too, so this Hongdae date turned out quite satisfying. With omurice, pasta and soba maki all on the menu, it was easy for two people with different tastes to each pick something they liked!

It's a 2-minute walk from Exit 4 of Hongik University Station. It sits right at the entrance to Hongdae's Red Road, and it's also within a 5-minute walk from Exit 9.

It's in an alley a bit off Hongdae's busiest streets, so the vibe is relatively calm and quiet! Even in the evening, the soft lighting stood out. It's easy to find if you look for Hongdae Udon nearby.

It's on the 2nd floor of the building, accessible via an outdoor staircase.

At the bottom of the stairs you can check and make a CatchTable reservation. Since it was a weekday evening, I got in with no wait at all.

Walking in, the space was clean and bright.

With a modern interior centered on beige and gray tones and quiet background music, it was a comfortable place to eat — not overwhelming, but with cute touches throughout, exactly the feel of a Hongdae date restaurant.

There's a separate water station too, and amenities like wet wipes, tissues and chargers were all set up.

What comes in the set for two? 2 mains, 1 side and 2 drinks

The in-store menu had no photos, so I checked the Naver menu instead — this place is known for its pretty, cute visuals, making it a great pick for a Hongdae summer date. This time I ordered the set menu for two. It comes with 2 mains, 1 side, and 2 drinks, so I chose rubber duck omurice, spicy seafood oil pasta, buckwheat soba maki, and juice.

Rubber duck omurice, 16,900 won, with the mascot to take home

First up was the rubber duck omurice. It costs ₩16,900, and true to its name, it's topped with a duck made out of quail eggs. The real dish looked exactly like the menu photo, so I started snapping photos the second it arrived haha.

Rubber duck and tube mascot received as a gift

They also gave us the rubber duck and tube mascot decoration as a gift!! Coming for a meal and getting a cute gift on top of it felt so nice, I could cry.

The rice underneath was fried rice — seasoned just right, not too sweet or salty — and the sauce, which had a distinctive aroma, was rich but light, and paired perfectly with the mild, soft rolled egg on top of the rice.

Next came the spicy seafood oil pasta, a spicy oil pasta piled high with mussels and clams.

The sauce had soaked properly into the noodles, so the flavor stayed strong from the first bite to the last, and there was zero fishy taste from the seafood. The spicy, savory oil sauce clung nicely to every bite, and switching back and forth with the omurice made for a great combo.

Buckwheat soba maki, the side packed with vegetables and noodles

Last up was the buckwheat soba maki, and it was satisfying just from the visuals alone.

Between this and the rubber duck omurice, the whole meal had that cute, kitschy energy that made it feel like a great pasta restaurant in Hongdae for a date course.

The soba maki was wrapped in a thick egg sheet with healthy vegetables like cucumber and cabbage inside, plus mild but hearty buckwheat noodles packed in — filling and healthy-tasting all at once. It was seasoned just enough that it never felt heavy or overwhelming.

Cider and orange juice included in the set

Was the 50,000-won set for two worth it for a Hongdae date?

On top of everything, the set came with cider and orange juice! For this whole spread at ₩50,000s, it's a pretty reasonable price for a Hongdae pasta place. Every single dish had a cute visual, and it wasn't just pretty food for the sake of it — the taste held up too, which made the whole meal really satisfying.

Especially with a fun-to-look-at dish like the rubber duck omurice, this is a place I'd recommend if you're looking for a Hongdae date restaurant. The cute, photogenic food and clean atmosphere made it feel like a good option for a special occasion too.

Everything I had this time was satisfying overall, so I'd love to come back and try more of the menu!
