Yeonnam-dong Korean BBQ: thick pork neck, salt & wasabi — Gogi Salon

In short

Gogi Salon is a Korean BBQ restaurant on a Yeonnam-dong side street in Seoul, a 5-minute walk from Exit 2 of Hongik University Station. Two diners ordered the ₩51,000 meat set (two servings of kkotmoksal, or prime pork neck, one serving of fresh pork belly and bibim noodles) and added ₩6,000 chadol doenjang sulbap, a brisket and soybean-paste rice soup; staff grilled the meat at the table, so conversation flowed easily. The best part of Gogi Salon was the thick but tender pork neck eaten with salt and wasabi.

Today I've got a Korean BBQ review from Yeonnam-dong! I'm someone who loves meat, if that wasn't already obvious haha. This time I visited Gogi Salon, tucked into a Yeonnam-dong alley!

The exterior is clean and a bit upscale-looking, so my expectations went up before I even walked in hahaha. There's a menu board out front you can check out.

Inside Gogi Salon: good for group dinners?

The inside had more seats and was roomier than I expected! The tables were spaced well apart, which made it easy to talk. Groups and reservations are both possible, so it also looked like a solid spot for a Yeonnam-dong work dinner.

The ₩51,000 meat set we ordered for two

Since Gogi Salon has well-organized set menus, we didn't overthink it and ordered the meat set. The ₩51,000 meat set comes with two servings of flower pork neck, one serving of fresh pork belly, and bibim noodles (spicy mixed noodles), and we added the ₩6,000 chadol doenjang sulbap (rice fried with beef brisket and doenjang stew) on top.

  • Meat set ₩51,000 — flower pork neck x2 / fresh pork belly x1 / bibim noodles
  • Add-on: chadol doenjang sulbap ₩6,000

It's a pretty generous spread for two people, so we ordered planning to eat until stuffed from the start hahaha.

Notice about Gogi Salon's Naver review event

They're also running a Naver review event, so make sure to join!! You get a drink or bibim noodles as a thank-you!

The restroom is inside and separated for men and women. I was touched by the thoughtfulness of having mouthwash and Febreze ready there,,⭐️

Three sauces: wasabi, salt, and whole-grain mustard

Three sauces and the side dishes

On one side of the table at Gogi Salon, wasabi, salt, and whole-grain mustard were set out. You could scoop out as much as you wanted yourself, which was convenient! I portioned all three sauces onto my small plate.

The banchan (side dishes) all came out clean and neat too, and the combination went really well with the meat, so I loved it 😆 There were pickled peppers, fresh lettuce wraps, spicy marinated crab, and even a salad with house-made dressing! Everything felt tidy and fresh — totally my style hahaha. These days a lot of BBQ places just give you a few simple basics, so it was nice to find a place that sets a full table like this again 🥹

Thick flower pork neck, grilled by staff for you

Can you see how gorgeous the meat color is…?🥹 And finally, the meat arrived! Seriously, look at the color of this flower pork neck — bright red and so thick that my stomach started growling before I even took a bite lol. It came with potatoes and mushrooms too, so the portion looked really generous, right?!

The first piece they gave us was from the end of the pork neck, and personally it was my favorite cut — eating it with wasabi and salt on top was seriously delicious. And here's the part I especially loved about Gogi Salon! The staff grill the meat for you! At most BBQ places, you're so busy flipping the meat that you can barely talk .!.! But here, the staff grill it perfectly, so we could just relax and chat while eating, which was so nice 😆

The bibim noodles that come with the set

The bibim noodles included in the set — this one's a real gem. A little spicy but also sweet and tangy, and wrapping it up with the meat was so delicious ㅠㅠㅠ I'd recommend getting it through the review event!

Thick-cut but not chewy?

I worried that the thick-cut flower pork neck at Gogi Salon might be tough, but nope — it wasn't chewy at all, just tender! (The staff said pork neck needs to be cut thick to hold onto its juices and taste even better!!) It was full of juice and the meat itself was so good that I ended up eating almost everything with just the salt + wasabi combo. When the meat itself is this good, eating it simply is the best way!!⭐️ If you love thick-cut meat, this will probably be right up your alley!

Finishing with ₩6,000 chadol doenjang sulbap

Lastly, we ordered the ₩6,000 chadol doenjang sulbap. You know you're supposed to finish a BBQ meal with doenjang stew rice, right?! It was packed with beef brisket and loads of tofu — such a delicious way to end the meal~~

Ended up completely stuffed hahaha. We were hungry so we finished absolutely everything. Such a happy day finding a truly delicious BBQ place after a long time.

Final verdict

If you're getting BBQ in Yeonnam-dong, I recommend Gogi Salon! Overall the taste, facilities, and service were all satisfying at this Yeonnam-dong favorite. The meat was thick and delicious, and having staff grill it for us made the meal so much more relaxed — that was especially great. The atmosphere is clean too, so it also seems like a good pick for a Yeonnam-dong date when you're craving BBQ 😊💛 If you're looking for thick-cut BBQ in Yeonnam-dong where the staff grills for you, I recommend Gogi Salon~~🤭🥩
