Rainy-day boneless cheese jjimdak at a Hongdae restaurant: Ongdarae

I recently had some seriously good jjimdak (braised chicken) at Ongdarae Jjimdak in Hongdae~! I think it was my first jjimdak in about a year, so it tasted even better, and I totally fell for that chewy, sweet flavor. It was a really filling meal!

Is Ongdarae Jjimdak easy to find from Hongik Univ. Station?

Ongdarae Jjimdak is close to Hongik Univ. Station, so I found it easily without any trouble! It opens at 11:00 even on weekends, so early-rising zombies (?) like me, wandering around looking for a good place to eat, end up right here haha.

Maybe because it was a drizzly, rainy day, I felt like this sweet, piping hot jjimdak would taste even better~ hahaha!

If you spot this white exterior, you're in the right place! It looked so clean and like a proper good restaurant that I was honestly really excited haha. Foodies like me.. research what to eat before we even arrive, hahaha...

A few cars can park in front of the restaurant, so you can just pull up and visit~! You can try a huge variety of jjimdak flavors: gochujang, cheese, seafood, Sinheung pepper, scorched rice jjimdak and more, and that got me excited too hahaha!

My all-time favorite is of course cheese jjimdak, but..! With so many flavors, including ones you can only try at Ongdarae Jjimdak, I started agonizing over what to eat again..

Inside Ongdarae Jjimdak and ordering by tablet

Inside, Ongdarae Jjimdak has a ton of seats and is nicely kept, which was my first surprise! I went right at opening time and walked in as the very first customer, but then lots of customers streamed in one after another, and I could really feel that this is a Hongdae go-to spot.. haha

You order on the tablet at each table, which was really convenient! I ordered one boneless cheese jjimdak in size M and a Pepsi Zero. Order done~!

Ongdarae Jjimdak group seating: good for a company dinner?

There's also group seating like this in the back of Ongdarae Jjimdak! It looked great for coming as a group for a meal haha. It's set up so you can eat quite privately like this, so keep that in mind~! It looked good for a year-end company dinner or party too haha.

Yuja dressing salad served before the jjimdak

At Ongdarae Jjimdak, a salad comes out right after you order the jjimdak! It's piled with a really tangy yuja (citron) dressing, it cleansed my palate completely and was very light to eat, which I loved haha. If you like this sweet-tart, refreshing taste, you'll definitely love it!

Boneless cheese jjimdak size M: how big and how good?

The size M boneless cheese jjimdak at Ongdarae Jjimdak serves 2-3 people, so a way, way bigger portion than I expected came out and I was overwhelmed at first.. hahaha. It's a seriously big amount, and since it's the 2-3 person size M, there was a very generous amount of cheese and noodles~!

The chicken was also really tender and mostly lean meat, so it was nice to chew, and above all I could really taste the sweetness of the soy sauce, which made me, a lover of sweet-and-salty, purely happy...

Stretchy cheese and scissors to cut it

Ongdarae Jjimdak brings scissors along with the cheese jjimdak. Cheese is great (I'm a cheese lover heh), but this long, super-stretchy cheese can be a little bit of a hassle, so I felt it was full marks for thoughtfulness that they bring scissors too... Thanks to that, I could snip the noodles and cheese and slurp the noodles right away, hahaha.

The combo of noodles, cheese and chicken was so, so good that I kept eating it, the cheese jjimdak at Ongdarae Jjimdak! It's the kind of place where I could really feel how much I love cheese and chicken~!
