How far is Gim Myeongju from Sinjungdong Station, and what's the dining room like?
The restaurant is near Sinjungdong Station in Bucheon. It's a 3–4 minute walk from the station, so it's easy to get to on foot.

There's also a café and waiting area on the 1st floor. I think it would be a nice place to spend some time before or after your meal.

Side dishes and cheonggukjang to take home at the 2nd-floor entrance
The restaurant is on the 2nd floor. Right at the entrance there are side dishes, domestic nurungji (scorched rice crisps) and a variety of snacks. The side dishes and cheonggukjang are around ₩5,000 per pack, so they're easy to pick up without much thought.

The space at Gim Myeongju Sinjung-dong Branch is really big. The tables are nicely separated from each other, so it's perfect for family meals and get-togethers.

Self-serve bar with unlimited side dish refills
There's also a good-quality self-serve bar. At Gim Myeongju, every side dish can be refilled for free.

They say the cheonggukjang and side dishes all use seasonal ingredients, and they make more than 12 side dishes every day.
Tteuranchae Jeongsik or Tteuranchae Bapsang: which set meal to order?

The menu at Gim Myeongju Sinjung-dong Branch is divided into the Tteuranchae Set (정식) and the Tteuranchae Bapsang (밥상).

If you go with the Tteuranchae Bapsang, you just pick at least one à la carte dish.
Our order: Tteuranchae Bapsang for 2 plus a whole grilled mackerel

I ordered the Tteuranchae Bapsang for 2 and one grilled mackerel with my mom. The table is pretty big, yet it was totally packed with this generous spread.
Yellow-rice pot rice, one pot per person
The Tteuranchae Bapsang includes pot rice (solbap). Each person gets their own pot, which makes it easy to eat. The rice isn't regular white rice but yellow rice (hwangmi), which they say gives it aroma, flavor and nutrition all together.

Rich, savory cheonggukjang worth the trip
Gim Myeongju Sinjung-dong Branch is a seriously great place for cheonggukjang. The tofu is cut in big chunks so it feels hearty, and there's plenty of kimchi and green onion too, so it feels generous.

The cheonggukjang has a rich flavor, and from the first bite that nutty, earthy taste fills your mouth. It isn't harsh but still tastes deep, so it was great with rice.

12 side dishes served on two trays
You get 12 side dishes in total, neatly set out on two trays with 6 each. They include kimchi, namul (seasoned vegetables), jangajji (pickles), jorim (braised dishes) and more, so you get to taste a bit of everything.

Every side dish was prepared neatly, so the meal felt really pleasant.

The ones my chopsticks kept going back to were the japchae (glass noodle stir-fry) and the fried eggplant! Besides the 12 side dishes, the self-serve bar also has fried lotus root and cabbage salad.

Is one whole grilled mackerel enough for two?
The grilled mackerel at Gim Myeongju comes as one whole fish, and it was plenty for two adults to share.

The mackerel is fairly large and the meat is thick. It was grilled crisp outside and moist inside, with just the right seasoning, so it's delicious even laid on top of your rice.

Who is Gim Myeongju Sinjungdong Branch good for?
It's a neat, hearty spread, so Gim Myeongju Sinjung-dong Branch is a great Bucheon Korean restaurant to take your parents! A meal that leaves you stuffed! I enjoyed it a lot again today. ♡ Yum yum
