Magok Station sushi restaurant, 12-piece salmon set and futomaki
In short
Ilpum Magok is a Japanese sushi and kaisendon (raw seafood rice bowl) restaurant at 228 Gonghang-daero near Magok Station in Gangseo, Seoul. Ilpum Magok has a wood-toned interior that felt cozy and upscale at the same time. With both bar tables and hall tables, it's easy to go solo or bring a group for a meal.

The kitchen is open, so wherever you sit you can see it, and you can naturally watch the chef cooking. ^^
What's on the Ilpum Magok menu?

At Ilpum Magok you can enjoy good-quality Japanese dishes, from kaisendon (raw seafood rice bowls) and sushi to unagi don (grilled eel rice bowls).

There are lots of kaisendon varieties, so you can pick the combination that suits your taste. They also have sashimi and fried dishes, so it works for a meal or for a light drink on the side.
With sake, highballs, beer and soju all available, there are plenty of drinks to go with the food.

If you write a Naver review, Ilpum Magok gives you 2 croquettes as a free service. It's a small perk, so I'd recommend joining in if you visit.
What we ordered at Ilpum Magok
- Salmon sushi set
- Futomaki, 1 roll (10 pcs)
- Crab cream croquette, 2 pcs

We ordered the salmon sushi set, where you can enjoy a generous amount of nothing but salmon, and a futomaki roll packed with all kinds of fillings.

And the crab cream croquette, too. Order complete!
Chawanmushi and the noodle or fried dish served with every main

Every main at Ilpum Magok includes chawanmushi, a noodle/fried dish and dessert.

Chawanmushi is easiest to understand as a Japanese steamed egg custard. It has a soft, bouncy, pudding-like texture and was lovely as a starter.

This is the noodle/fried dish. It comes with crispy fried fish cake in it. The portion and size are just right for slurping down lightly, so it was nice to have while waiting for the main.
How many pieces come in Ilpum Magok's salmon sushi set?
The salmon sushi set at Ilpum Magok has 12 pieces in total, with raw salmon sushi and flame-seared salmon sushi together. Wow, it's a sight that makes salmon lovers happy in one go. Glossy, appetizing salmon sits neatly on each piece, and just looking at it got my expectations up.

Twelve pieces is plenty for a solo meal, and it's also easy to share if you order it alongside other dishes.

The set ranges from the clean, mild raw salmon sushi to the flame-seared salmon sushi with its smoky char.

The salmon melts the moment it goes in your mouth. It was so fresh that even one bite tells you the quality is good, and the soft texture and nutty flavor blended together nicely. ^^

Can you order a full or half futomaki roll at Ilpum Magok?
Yes. The futomaki (thick sushi roll) at Ilpum Magok comes as a full roll of 10 pieces or a half roll of 5 pieces, so you can order to suit your appetite. It's another one that wins on looks.

The futomaki is a bit big to eat in one bite. But that's because the fillings are packed in with no gaps, so it looks generous just from the outside.

It blends crispy fried shrimp, soft tamagoyaki (rolled omelet), three kinds of fresh sashimi, crunchy cucumber and more.

Bite in and you taste the texture and flavor of each ingredient one after another, and the balance is lovely.
Crab cream croquettes and dessert
The crab cream croquette is a side that goes well with a glass of beer. Pair it with beer and it's even better.

Inside the crispy fried shell is a soft, rich crab cream filling, so it was an easy, enjoyable side.

Even the final dessert is perfect!!
