While wandering around Danyang's Gugyeong Market (구경시장), we picked up some garlic bread to take home.

Danyang is famous for garlic, and it turns out the garlic bread here comes in more than one flavor — you can choose cream cheese, black garlic, or sweet potato. Picking just one or two felt like a waste, so we ordered the set with all four. The market was crowded, so we packed it up quickly and only compared the flavors later, opening the box and tasting one piece at a time. Even though it's all garlic bread, the fillings made each one taste quite different, and we ended up debating which one was our favorite.

Danppang Bakery (단빵제빵소) is located at 36 Dojeon 4-gil, Danyang-eup, Danyang-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do, South Korea, inside Danyang's Gugyeong Market. We parked at the Hasang Free Parking Lot and walked over toward the market.

Once we got deeper into the market, there was so much food around that we kept slowing down.

There was already a small crowd in front of Danppang Bakery waiting to buy bread, so we joined the line too.

It was busy, but waiting actually gave us time to look over the menu and decide which flavors to get.

Ordering the set with all four garlic breads

We chose the set with cream cheese, black garlic cream cheese, sweet potato, and baguette. One set was 14,000 won, and we ordered two sets for a total of 28,000 won.

We liked that we could share different flavors instead of just buying more of one kind.

After ordering, we browsed the bread lined up in the display case while we waited. Instead of just one or two pieces left, there were rows of garlic bread, which made us keep thinking about which flavor to try first.

Seeing the round loaves lined up on the tray felt like getting freshly prepared bread. Even before opening the box, the golden-brown surface caught our eye.

Following the loaves with our eyes, we could see bread before the cream was added next to bread already filled with white cream. Even the same-shaped loaves looked quite different once filled.

The showcase also had finished loaves on display, so it was fun to guess what each flavor would taste like while we waited.

Watching the staff lift a loaf, it felt bigger and thicker up close than it looked in photos. While waiting for our turn, we talked about where to eat it once we packed it up.

Opening the box: four garlic breads side by side

After finishing our walk through the market, we opened the box. Just looking at the packaging, we were curious how the four kinds of bread would be arranged inside.

Once we lifted the lid, the four different loaves were easy to tell apart at a glance across the dividers — one with white cream, one with dark cream, one showing yellow sweet potato, and one with a garlic slice visible in the middle.

Looking closer, the placement and amount of filling varied for each. With four flavors in one set, it was easy for each of us to pick what we wanted or share small bites. I reached first for the one with plenty of white cream, then tried the black garlic cream cheese, sweet potato, and baguette in order to compare the differences.

Tasting notes, from cream cheese to black garlic

The cream cheese flavor led with garlic aroma before the smooth cream cheese came through. It was sweet and savory, making it the easiest of the four to reach for again. The generous amount of cream kept each bite from feeling plain.

The black garlic cream cheese stood out right away thanks to its chocolate-colored cross-section. The aroma was stronger and the sweetness felt a bit deeper than the regular cream cheese version. If you're eating garlic bread in Danyang, this is the flavor worth picking at least once.

The sweet potato flavor looked sweet even before tasting it, with its yellow filling visible. The garlic aroma combined with the sweet potato's soft sweetness made it feel more like a dessert. It was different from the cream cheese's fresher taste, which made switching between them fun.

Unlike the cream-filled loaves, the baguette version had more of a chewy bread texture. It let us taste the garlic flavor while finishing on a plainer note, so we kept reaching for it in between the sweeter breads.

Personally, I reached first for the soft cream cheese flavor, but the black garlic cream cheese was the one that stuck with me. With sweet potato and baguette in the mix too, even two sets never felt monotonous.
