Yeouido tteokbokki restaurant, rainy-day mild set: Hyeonseonine

On a drizzly weekend, I wanted an indoor date at Yeouido IFC Mall and some good tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), so I hopped on Line 5 and headed over. I visited Hyeonseonine Tteokbokki Yeouido Premium IFC Branch, a brand any tteokbokki lover has probably heard of at least once!

How to walk from Yeouido Station to Hyeonseonine in IFC Mall

Hyeonseonine Tteokbokki started at its flagship in Yongsan and has since spread across Seoul as a go-to tteokbokki spot. The chewy wheat rice cakes and rich, moist, spicy broth have a savory depth that keeps you craving it, honestly 🥺 Heading toward Exit 3 of Yeouido Station and walking through the underground passage, the store sits right between IFC Mall and The Hyundai Seoul!

You order via kiosk. It was just past 5pm on a weekend, and the place was already buzzing — solo diners, people getting takeout, a real mix of ages and party sizes.

What is on the menu, from sets to table-cooked tteokbokki

Overall, the prices were super affordable and reasonable, making it an easy, no-pressure meal. You can order à la carte, of course, or go for the set menus featuring tteokbokki, gimbap, fried snacks and sundae, or the instant tteokbokki you boil right at the table.

The self-serve bar had aprons, pickled radish, salt, side plates, and cutlery, all kept neat and tidy.

Is the 23,000-won Hyeonseonine set enough for two adults?

Chewy wheat rice cakes and plenty of mild broth

Such gorgeous-looking tteokbokki... I'd already tried the flagship Yongsan branch before, and Hyeonseonine's tteokbokki really lives up to the hype ㅠㅠ The rice cakes were nice and chewy, the fish cake rich and tasty, and there was plenty of broth so it was easy to slurp everything up smoothly!!

You can also choose your spice level, and we went with the mildest option! It wasn't too sweet or bland — just deeply savory in exactly the right way. I thought this sauce would be amazing stir-fried with rice too.

Mini gimbap with a sesame oil finish

This mini gimbap (seaweed rice roll), fragrant with sesame oil, was also really tasty.

Simple, but it rounded out the whole meal nicely, if that makes sense haha. Bite-sized pieces, and dipped straight into the tteokbokki broth, they were even better.

Generous sundae and a mix of fried snacks

And the sundae (Korean blood sausage) — the portion size surprised me! Really savory and delicious, with liver and lung served alongside evenly. Getting to sample a bit of everything, snack-style, felt like going back to childhood — really fun 😆

Dipped lightly in salt, the umami just exploded — so good. Honestly made me wonder if sundae was always this delicious haha. The fried snacks came in a nice variety too! Vegetable fritters, fried mandu (dumplings), fried squid, kimmari (seaweed rolls), sweet potato fritters — such great value, and the frying itself was excellent, clean-tasting through and through, so we finished every last piece 👍🏻

We sipped the accompanying fish cake broth between bites to cleanse the palate haha. With fried crumbs sprinkled on top as a garnish, they dissolved softly into the broth, adding even more savory flavor.

Why Hyeonseonine works before IFC Mall or The Hyundai Seoul

Hyeonseonine really is a crowd-pleasing Yeouido tteokbokki spot anyone would enjoy! It's perfect to eat here quickly before heading into IFC Mall or The Hyundai Seoul, then grab a coffee at the mall afterward. Even as I write this post, I'm craving that tteokbokki flavor again...
