Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Bansang Handaeap Station Branch (화덕으로간고등어반상 한대앞역점) is a fish grill restaurant in the food alley near Handaeap Station, where the fish is cooked in a hearth oven. I wanted grilled fish, and this place grills it in a hearth oven, no less! I knew I had to go, so I went with my mom.

It's a fairly new fish grill, and I liked its good reviews and tidy atmosphere. Parking is easy too, so it's a convenient spot if you're coming by car.

Single-tray grilled fish meals with separate side dishes

Hwadeogeuro serves its hearth-grilled fish neatly on one tray per person!! At fish grill places you usually have to share the side dishes, which always feels a bit icky, so I loved that this one comes as individual trays!

And the fish is grilled in a 500-degree hearth oven, no less.

What's on the Hwadeogeuro menu?

The sets are mackerel set + spicy pork, mackerel set + pizza, and mackerel set + braise. A la carte, there's mackerel, atka mackerel, Spanish mackerel, spicy pork, braised mackerel with bracken, seasoned pollock roe, sea eel, pork jowl and handmade tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patty)! Note that hairtail isn't available because of supply problems.

There are plenty of options, from sets to a la carte to add-ons. If you don't eat fish, you can go for the spicy pork, pork jowl or tteokgalbi. It also looks like a good fix for babies who don't eat fish at family gatherings.

Interior and seating

As a brand-new popular spot, the interior is super tidy and clean. There are seats of all kinds, from tables for 4 to group seating and solo seats.

Self-serve side dish bar: try the black sesame lotus root

For extra side dishes at Hwadeogeuro, you help yourself at the self-serve bar! It was nice and easy.

When I went, there was kimchi, lotus root, pickles and fish cake, and the black sesame lotus root was crunchy and delicious. This place is a total side-dish heaven!

Mackerel set for 2 with pizza: how is the hearth-grilled mackerel?

I ordered the mackerel set for 2 with pizza. It comes with a variety of side dishes, plus rice, soup, sauce and lettuce wraps.

They say the fish is grilled in a 500-degree hearth oven so it's crisp outside and moist inside. It's seasoned with salt that has had its bittern removed for over 10 years, which brings out the flavor of the fish, so people of all ages can enjoy it.

Look at that nicely grilled mackerel! It's grilled in a hearth oven, no less. It all comes out neatly on one tray, which I loved.

The fish was super plump too. The flesh was so tender and not fishy at all, just delicious. It was lightly salty and tasty, and the bones were really easy to pick out. So good!

Hearth-oven pizza dipped in honey

The hearth pizza I ordered with the mackerel set was really good too. Pizza baked in a hearth oven is just so tasty. They give you honey on the side, and dipping the pizza in it was amazing.

Is it good for a weekend meal with parents?

I think Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Bansang Handaeap Station Branch is a perfect place to go with your parents. It's great for a weekend meal out! Grilling fish at home is a hassle because of the smell, but here you can enjoy a meal in a clean place with a nice atmosphere!
