Cafe Pomun is a café and dessert spot on Chudam-ro in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi, using the second floor of its main building along with a separate annex. On a neighborhood walk with her son, the writer ordered grapefruit tea and the signature Pomun coffee with apple-fig-cinnamon, yellow cheese and anbutter walnut-cookie financiers, then took financiers and madeleines home for her husband. Cafe Pomun suits anyone who wants to linger quietly rather than sit in a loud, crowded big café.

Dongtan Central Park Korean restaurant for water naengmyeon: Yangpuni

Yangpuni Kimchi Jjigae & Samgyeopsal is a Korean restaurant on Dongtan Bansong 3-gil in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi, near Dongtan Central Park and Gaenari Park. On a second lunch date with her son, the writer ordered water naengmyeon (chilled buckwheat noodles), soy sauce bulgogi, samgyeopsal kimchi jjim (braised pork belly and kimchi) and a rolled omelette all at once, and found both the noodles and the kimchi jjim mildly seasoned and easy to eat. Yangpuni Kimchi Jjigae & Samgyeopsal is a good stop when you want several gentle, non-spicy Korean dishes to share.

Dongtan jjamppong for a cold: level 1 cockle jjamppong at Bultina

Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong Dongtan Namgwangjang Branch is a cockle jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) specialist near Namgwangjang in Dongtan-gu, Hwaseong, Gyeonggi. On a weekday lunch with a husband who felt a cold coming on, the writer ordered cockle jjamppong and cockle jjamppong rice at spice level 1, plus a small tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork). The broth was clean and briny rather than fishy, and the food came out fast enough for an office lunch break.
