Dongtan jjamppong for a cold: level 1 cockle jjamppong at Bultina
In short
Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong Dongtan Namgwangjang Branch is a cockle jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) specialist near Namgwangjang in Dongtan-gu, Hwaseong, Gyeonggi. On a weekday lunch with a husband who felt a cold coming on, the writer ordered cockle jjamppong and cockle jjamppong rice at spice level 1, plus a small tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork). The broth was clean and briny rather than fishy, and the food came out fast enough for an office lunch break.

My husband had been feeling a bit off for a few days and said he wanted something spicy and hot for lunch. So without much thought, I searched for Dongtan jjamppong and found Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong Dongtan Namgwangjang Branch.
Parking at Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong Dongtan Namgwangjang Branch: which lot is easier?
Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong Dongtan Namgwangjang Branch sits on the first floor at 149 Nojak-ro, Dongtan-gu, Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi-do. The sign is big and easy to spot, so it was simple to find even on a first visit.

There's parking available in the building's basement, with one spot reserved for the restaurant. Personally, though, I found the public parking lot right in front of the building much more convenient than the basement — since it's right outside, it was easy to get back to the car after eating. Parking around Dongtan Namgwangjang can sometimes be a hassle, but this was manageable enough to drive over without much stress.
Fast enough for a weekday lunch break in Dongtan
We visited on a weekday for lunch, and there were quite a few office workers from around the area. Still, the restaurant was overall clean and pleasant, and the staff handled things calmly while moving really fast.

I think how fast the food comes out really matters for Chinese food, and here, ordering to serving flowed smoothly, so the tables turned over quickly. Customers kept coming in, but there was no sense of a long wait — it made me get why people around here look for Dongtan jjamppong for their office lunch.

Ordering by tablet and what's at the self-serve bar
You order through the tablet menu at the table. Cockle jjamppong lets you choose spice level from 1 to 4. We both went with level 1. What we ordered that day was cockle jjamppong, cockle jjamppong rice, and a small tangsuyuk.
Aprons, side plates, pickled radish and more are available freely at the self-serve bar. Being able to grab what we needed without calling a staff member over was convenient too.
Cockle jjamppong at level 1: how spicy is it really?
The cockle jjamppong at Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong Dongtan Namgwangjang Branch looked properly spicy-hot just from the red broth alone. They say they prep fresh ingredients from 8am every day, and maybe that's why the cockles, clams, and vegetables all felt genuinely fresh.

What I especially liked was that there was no fishy seafood taste at all — the clean, refreshing flavor from the shellfish really came through in the broth. At spice level 1, it wasn't overwhelmingly hot, but the seafood base was rich enough that my spoon kept going back in. It was hot and spicy, but not just spicy for the sake of it — I liked that.
My husband worked up a proper sweat eating the broth, and afterward said he felt a lot more cleared out than before. I'd wondered if it was a mistake to bring someone who wasn't feeling well to eat something spicy, but it seemed like it worked out, and that made me kind of proud.

What is the cockle jjamppong rice like?
I also tried the cockle jjamppong rice. Eating rice with that rich broth gave a different kind of heartiness than noodles. It was loaded generously with cockles, clams, and vegetables, which paired well with each spoonful of rice. It made sense why so many office workers around here come for Dongtan jjamppong on weekday lunches.
Small tangsuyuk, still too much for two people
We ordered the small-size tangsuyuk, and the portion was more generous than expected. Together with two bowls of jjamppong, it was almost too much for the two of us to finish.

Even though it came out already covered in sauce, the crispy texture held up quite well. There was no meaty smell at all, and paired with the sweet sauce, it was perfect for a bite here and there between the spicy jjamppong. Personally, I think if two people come for Dongtan jjamppong, one small tangsuyuk to share would be plenty.
Free instant coffee to finish the meal
Walking out full, we spotted a coffee vending machine. After Chinese food, a warm cup of instant coffee is a must. We poured ourselves a free cup and wrapped up lunch on a good note.
What stuck with me most about Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong Dongtan Namgwangjang Branch was the refreshing broth with cockles in it and how fast the food came out. It seemed well suited to a lunch where time matters, like a weekday office lunch, and the staff were friendly while still being quick. If you're craving a spicy-hot broth like we were, or looking for Dongtan jjamppong, starting with level 1 cockle jjamppong seems like an easy way in.
