Why I picked the mixed sashimi platter at this Yeonsu Station sashimi restaurant
I ordered the small Veteran mixed sashimi platter (모둠회) at Veteran General Fish Market Incheon Yeonsu Branch (베테랑 종합어시장 인천연수점). It came with 5 kinds of sashimi, sea bream, flounder, rockfish, salmon and shad, so I got to taste a nice range of fish 🤤

On days when you crave fresh raw fish, a mixed platter with lots of different kinds is the first thing that comes to mind, right? So I went to Veteran General Fish Market Incheon Yeonsu Branch, where I always go 😃 When one kind of fish just isn't enough, nothing beats a mixed platter, haha. You can compare different textures and flavors as you eat, so it's worth a look if you love sashimi :)

Location and parking at Veteran General Fish Market Incheon Yeonsu Branch
Veteran General Fish Market Incheon Yeonsu Branch is at 106 Beotkkot-ro, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, in Yeonsu Gwangjang Plaza, 3rd floor, Unit 202-1. It's a sashimi restaurant in Cheonghak-dong near Yeonsu Station :) It's close to Yeonsu Station, so it's easy to reach by public transport, and there's a parking lot in the building, so those coming by car, take note!

Good for groups? Hall, rooms and menu
The restaurant has a large hall and separate room seating, so it seems perfect for company dinners and group gatherings, haha. Every time I go, it's sooo crowded!! I guess everyone just ends up satisfied with the taste and the prices~
As a sashimi specialist, it has not only mixed platters and single-type sashimi but also seafood, sushi, mulhoe (cold spicy raw fish soup) and stews, so plenty of choices! You can finish the meal with spicy fish stew, and it's a decent menu for friends who don't like raw fish to order a proper meal :) There's also a lunch special sashimi set and set menus good for sharing, so it works for lunch as well as evening drinks 👍

Also, there's a smoking room inside the restaurant, which is probably why there are so many middle-aged guys here 😆

What basic side dishes come out?
The basic side dishes at Veteran General Fish Market Incheon Yeonsu Branch include wrap vegetables, garlic and chili peppers, plus salad, quail eggs, pollack roe, assorted side dishes and sauces! At a sashimi place, you get as curious about the sides as the main fish, haha.

And a dried pollack seaweed soup (황태 미역국) comes out in a huge bowl, so you can eat your fill, haha. If you're going with a small child, just put rice in it and feed them, perfect!

Self-serve side dish corner and DIY kimchi pancakes
On one side of the restaurant there's a self-serve side dish corner and a corner where you pan-fry your own kimchi pancakes (김치전)!

If you run out of sides, you can grab more at the self-serve corner~ The basic side dishes didn't include corn salad, but it was at the self-serve bar, so I took some, haha.
And my husband brought back a kimchi pancake fried super crispy, haha. So I gave him a big thumbs up 😉

What's in the small Veteran mixed platter? Sea bream, flounder, rockfish, salmon, shad
The small Veteran mixed platter I ordered that day let me taste 5 kinds of sashimi, sea bream, flounder, rockfish, salmon and shad, a good choice for a day when you want a variety of fish 🖤 A mixed platter lets you enjoy many kinds on one plate, so it's also easy to order when you're with people whose tastes differ a little!
Especially, it has familiar white fish like sea bream and flounder along with salmon and shad, so you're not stuck with one flavor, which is the best part 👏🏻

Shad, the autumn seasonal fish
Since it's autumn, the seasonal fish in the Veteran mixed platter was shad (전어)! Shad is known for its rich, nutty flavor, right!? Lots of people look for it especially in autumn, haha. It has a different charm from mild fish like sea bream or flounder and makes the platter even more abundant 😊

How did the sashimi taste?
The slices of the Veteran mixed platter were just the right thickness and size, haha. Maybe because it's so fresh, it passed on looks alone, and every bite was chewy with amazing savory depth!

The sea bream was mild with a subtle savory richness (my husband said sea bream was the best 😆), and with its springy texture and clean flavor it's one of my favorite fish for sashimi, haha. And the flounder, what can I say. It had the fin part (engawa) too, so good!

I loved the rockfish too, since I like a chewy texture, and the salmon was fresh, soft and nutty. And yellowtail came out as well 😍 Kicking off this year's first yellowtail, hahaha

Summing up
That's how I ate sashimi in lots of tasty ways, haha. The mixed platter at Veteran General Fish Market Incheon Yeonsu Branch lets you enjoy many kinds of sashimi at once, a good choice when you can't decide which fish to eat :) I also liked that you get everything from the mild taste of white fish to the soft flavor of salmon and the nutty charm of shad 💛 If you're looking for a sashimi restaurant near Yeonsu Station in Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, head to Veteran General Fish Market Incheon Yeonsu Branch, where you can eat plenty of fish and seafood at a good price 😙
