My husband and I had a rare date at Gangnam Station, and after eating yangkkochi (lamb skewers), we weren't quite ready to head home, so we went looking for somewhere to enjoy dessert and coffee. Something About Coffee kept coming up in recommendations for Sinnonhyeon Station cafés, so we checked it out — I loved how big it was and how many kinds of desserts they had.

Something About Coffee is about a 7-minute walk from Gangnam Station and about 5 minutes from Sinnonhyeon Station, tucked in an alley behind the CGV building near Gangnam Station, so it's reasonably accessible from either station. It's a large café taking up an entire three-story building, so you can feel the scale just from the outside — the building itself has a stylish look that got me excited before I even walked in. Seating and atmosphere on all three floors

Walking into the 1st floor, tables and seats came into view right away, arranged in a mix of round and square shapes.

True to its size, the café had plenty of seating overall, but since it was the weekend, it was nearly full — customers kept streaming in the whole time I was there, which says a lot about how popular it is.

Going up to the 3rd floor, the spacing between tables felt a bit more relaxed, and the interior mixed white and wood tones nicely, giving off a warm yet clean feel.

The space itself was wide and never felt cramped, so it was great for lingering over coffee or chatting away rather than having a quiet conversation. There were some couples, but probably because of the pretty, emotional vibe, there were especially many women visiting.

The 2nd and 3rd floors also have terrace seating, so on a cool day, sitting outside would probably feel great. It was too hot that day though, so everyone was inside.

One of the biggest reasons I want to recommend Something About Coffee as a Sinnonhyeon Station café is the desserts. Walking onto the 2nd floor, all kinds of desserts are beautifully displayed — just looking at them made me want everything, and I ended up debating for a while.

There was a wide variety of baked goods — financiers, scones, cookies, pound cakes — and I liked how thick and hearty they all looked. Everything was neatly displayed under clear covers, which also gave a nice sense of hygiene. I spotted a yellow cheese cream cheese cookie I definitely want to try next time.

The showcase also had cake slices and sando (fruit sandwiches), including cakes made with seasonal fruit like fig or peach, giving them a slightly different feel from your usual desserts. They said the cakes use 100% dairy cream, and whole cakes can be reserved too, which would be nice for special occasions.

I picked the new hojicha choux milk tea, which layers nutty hojicha (roasted green tea) foam over an Earl Grey milk tea, topped with a choux pastry. The choux on top was lightly frozen like ice cream, so they told me to eat it before it melted.

It was soft yet subtly crispy, and I loved how the fragrant Earl Grey milk tea, the nutty and slightly bitter hojicha foam, and the choux all came together in a harmonious mix of flavors and textures.

Einspänner, 7,500 won

The einspänner had that solid, classic appeal — strong coffee topped with soft, sweet cream. The coffee's bitterness paired with the cream's sweet, nutty flavor made it a great match for dessert.

Yangzhi ganlu (mango pomelo sago) cheesecake, 9,500 won

The name 'yangtze cheesecake' was unfamiliar to me, but the colorful look was so tempting I ordered it without a second thought. Apparently it's a signature Hong Kong dessert — a plain cheese sheet layered with yogurt cream, mango, grapefruit, and popping pearls, finished with a drizzle of condensed milk.

Sweet fresh mango and tangy fresh grapefruit mingled through the soft yogurt cream, and the popping pearls burst as I ate, giving both a sweet-tart flavor and a fun texture at the same time.

Corn cream cheese financier, 4,000 won

The corn cream cheese financier turned out to be more delicious than I expected. I've always had a bit of a bias against financiers, thinking they're kind of dry and crumbly, so I don't buy them often and honestly couldn't tell madeleines and financiers apart very well — but this one was lightly crisp on the outside and moist, chewy on the inside. Really good.

There was a subtle nutty butter flavor, plus the soft, salty-sweet corn cream cheese balanced things out nicely. Bits of corn kernels added texture too — great! And the cheddar cheese seasoning brought out even more savory depth.
