Hapjeong date bar with beef radish soup and raw beef: Soui Pumgyeok
In short
Soui Pumgyeok (소의품격) is a Korean pub specialising in yukhoe (beef tartare), beef sashimi and salmon, tucked into an alley off Dongmak-ro 3-gil near Hapjeong Station in Mapo, Seoul. On a Sunday evening the writer ordered Soui Pumgyeok's signature Pumgyeok Hanpan platter (45,000 won), eating it with gim (seaweed), perilla leaves and several sauces, and the complimentary beef and radish soup served in an earthenware pot also stood out. Soui Pumgyeok is a recommended Hapjeong date spot for comparing raw beef cuts and salmon on one plate.

I was craving yukhoe (Korean beef tartare) plus salmon for the first time in ages, and while searching I fell for the crazy-good looks of this place and booked right away: Soui Pumgyeok (소의품격), a Hapjeong Station favorite! Tasting so many raw flavors from a single dish was pure bliss, so here's the story of that day 💘

What are the atmosphere and seating like at Soui Pumgyeok?

Soui Pumgyeok is a small, wood-toned bar tucked into a quiet alley near Hapjeong Station. Even on a Sunday the area around Hapjeong Station was packed with people, but our destination for the day, Soui Pumgyeok, sat in a quiet corner of an alley ✨

The inside is on the petite side, with a cozy, comfy wood-toned feel!

There's a mix of seating for 2 to 4 people, and you order on a tablet at each table (you pay afterward!).

When we visited, there seemed to be a booking for 6, because they had pushed tables together into a 6-person table! Group get-togethers look possible, so I'd suggest asking the shop 💘

In one corner there was a whole bunch of phone charging cables, which really showed the owner's thoughtfulness 👍🏻

The restroom is inside the shop, and the curtain out front has a cat peeking out, which made this cat owner's heart melt 🥹💘
Soui Pumgyeok menu and the free starter

The signature dish is Pumgyeok Hanpan, which lets you try salmon, yukhoe, brisket and beef sashimi all at once, and there's also a pretty varied lineup of set menus where you pick two of those four. The full menu doesn't seem to be on the Naver menu page, so I diligently photographed the tablet again today! There are meal dishes too, like beef jjamppong soup (spicy noodle soup) and pasta, so it looks good as a first-round bar that doubles as dinner ✨
The free starter is a bubbling-hot 🔥🔥 earthenware pot of beef and radish soup (muguk)! Honestly, I really don't like radish much, so why is this beef radish soup so good,,? The savory depth is amazing, and it's clean, and warm, and

Kelly (a beer) was ₩5,500. Even before the main arrived, the drinks were going down all by themselves 😎
What comes in the Pumgyeok Hanpan (₩45,000)?

Pumgyeok Hanpan costs ₩45,000, and about 10 minutes after ordering it arrived on a huge plate packed with brisket sashimi, salmon, yukhoe and beef sashimi. Tonight's drinking table is complete 🥹

Seaweed (gim), perilla leaves and several sauces came along too, so it was fun to mix and match however you like! With such a varied main, it looked great, and trying one piece at a time was a lot of fun 😘

Brisket sashimi: a perfect match with sesame oil dip and soy sauce
The brisket sashimi in the platter was sliced thin so it wasn't tough, and the more I chewed, the more the rich nutty flavor of the brisket fat came through ✨ It felt like a first for me, and it paired perfectly with the sesame-oil dip (gireumjang) or the soy sauce!

Salmon: aged salmon with onion and mayo sauce
The salmon was aged, so it was chewy, and the thick-cut texture was really appealing 😎

There was onion laid underneath, and dipping it in the mayo sauce was a perfect match! How did they know I love salmon with mayo 🥹
Yukhoe: wrapped in seaweed with perilla leaf

The yukhoe came in a gochujang-based seasoning, topped with plenty of finely sliced Asian pear! A staff member even told us the tastiest way to eat it, haha

Wrap it in seaweed with a perilla leaf! The saltiness of the crispy seaweed and the fragrant perilla blend with the yukhoe seasoning,,, 💘 and it has a different charm from eating it plain 🤤 With so many sauces and sides, finding your own favorite combination was a lot of fun at this Hapjeong bar, Soui Pumgyeok 🍶

Beef sashimi: wasabi and soy sauce, plus a dunk in gochujang
The beef sashimi (yuksasimi) is milder than the seasoned yukhoe, so it was great for tasting the meat's own nuttiness and chewy texture! My recommended combo is wasabi + soy sauce ✨
And if you dunk it deep into the gochujang sauce, you get the yukhoe seasoning and the chewy beef sashimi texture together, the ultimate weapon is born 😎 Ugh, my mouth is watering just writing this,,, 🤤

Mungtigi: a flower shape topped with gold leaf
The mungtigi (thick-cut raw beef) was rolled into a pretty flower shape topped with gold flakes! It was slightly thicker than the beef sashimi, so the texture was even chewier and the flavor mild ✨
Is Soui Pumgyeok in Hapjeong worth going back to?
Soui Pumgyeok is a Hapjeong bar where you can taste beef cuts that look alike but taste different, plus salmon, all in one plate 💘 I came because I fell for the looks, but after tasting it I fell even harder 😘 Next time I'd like to order the dansaewoe-hoe (raw sweet shrimp) too 🥹
