Gangnam Station burger shop: wasabi mayo shrimp burger, Bass Burger

Bass Burger Gangnam Samsung Town is a handmade burger shop in Seocho, Seoul, about a 3-minute walk from Gangnam Station Exit 5. Two friends came for a late lunch after 1 p.m. and ordered a wasabi mayo shrimp burger set (14,800 won), a double Bass burger set (15,800 won) and 4 chicken wings (5,400 won); the shrimp burger, packed with plump shrimp, and the wings, tried for the first time, were the standouts. For a filling lunch near Gangnam Station that avoids the rush, Bass Burger Gangnam Samsung Town is worth a visit, and the chicken wings are worth adding.

Gangnam Station bakery: quiet basement, lemonade, Bakerist Brown

Bakerist Brown is a bakery café near Gangnam Station in Seoul, spread over a basement level and floors 1–3, about a 5-minute walk from Sinnonhyeon Station Exit 6. On a Friday afternoon, the writer and a friend skipped the noisy 2nd floor for the relaxed basement and had Gangnam Sand cookies, a salted cream coffee (₩7,800) and a homemade lemonade (₩7,500). Bakerist Brown's wide range of breads and desserts makes choosing fun, and its cream-filled sand cookies taste best eaten right away.

Solo ramen after sandal shopping at Incheon Terminal: Menya Seoul

Menya Seoul Lotte Department Store Incheon Branch is a dongpo pork char siu ramen shop on basement level 1 of Lotte Department Store Incheon, which connects to Incheon Terminal Station in Michuhol, Incheon. After shopping for sandals, the writer ate alone and ordered the spicy dongpo pork char siu ramen set No. 3 (17,900 won) with karaage (Japanese fried chicken) and a Coke Zero; the spicy broth was milder than Shin Ramyun, so the writer drank it to the last spoonful. Menya Seoul's wraparound counter seating makes eating alone feel completely comfortable.

Gongdeok izakaya bar seats: uni cream pasta and sashimi, Orot Silbi

Orot Silbi is an izakaya in Mapo, Seoul, 95m from Exit 10 of Gongdeok Station. On a Saturday evening two of us sat at the bar table and ordered the seasonal sashimi for two (₩48,000), uni cream pasta (₩26,000) and a Suntory Kakubin highball. The sashimi melted in the mouth and the uni cream pasta was rich and savory, making Orot Silbi an easy place for a drink and a long conversation.
