Guwol-dong aged wagyu BBQ: tender cuts even with braces, Sip Sam Dae

Sip Sam Dae (십삼대) is an aged hanwoo and wagyu beef restaurant in Guwol-dong, Incheon, near Gil Hospital and close to Yesulhoegwan Station. To recharge after a draining stretch at work, the writer booked ahead and ordered the Premium Set 450g, which brought chuck flap, brisket and flank steak, a special sauce reduced over the charcoal, and doenjang sulbap (soybean paste stew with rice). Even with braces and unable to handle chewy meat, the writer found the aged wagyu at Sip Sam Dae soft enough to eat comfortably, making it a solid pick for a quiet family gathering or company dinner.

Guwol-dong monkfish stew with a Naver booking: Haemokjeong Guwol

Haemokjeong Guwol Branch is a seafood stew restaurant on the second floor of the building across from Kyobo Bookstore near the Art Center (Yesulhoegwan) in Guwol-dong, Namdong, Incheon. Booking through Naver for the 6:30pm peak hour meant no wait, and the spicy boneless monkfish stew came loaded with rice cakes, monkfish roe and milt in a smoky sauce, with free refills of the braised potatoes and chive salad. The spicy level is only a touch hotter than Shin Ramyun, so Haemokjeong Guwol is a good pick when you want a mildly fiery seafood stew.
