Seoul Korean BBQ at Gyodae, a weekday 8pm dinner set: Sodangkkae
In short
Sodangkkae O-gyeopjip Gyodae Main Branch (소당깨오겹집 교대본점) is a Korean BBQ restaurant serving domestic Duroc pork on the 2nd floor near Gyodae Gopchang Street, 334m from Exit 14 of Gyodae Station in Seocho, Seoul. On a weekday visit at 8pm, the writer had the Sodangkkae combo set for 81,500 won: 420g of ogyeopsal (skin-on pork belly), pork neck and pork jowl, plus yukhoe (Korean beef tartare) and kimchi stew, with staff grilling everything from start to finish. I visited Sodangkkae O-gyeopjip, which I'd heard serves low-temperature aged Duroc pork, near Gyodae Gopchang Street 🐷 Domestic Duroc pork is hard to come by, so when I heard there was a spot right at Gyodae Station, I rushed over!

The vibe on a weekday evening at 8pm
I visited around 8pm on a weekday, and there were still more people than I expected. Even while we were deep into our meal, there was a steady stream of delivery orders and dine-in customers who seemed to be there for a late-night snack.

What's in the ₩81,500 Sodangkkae combo set
The set lineup includes pork belly, pork neck, pork jowl, and even pork skin. The pork skin is apparently a new item! We went with the Sodangkkae combo set, which comes with pork belly, pork neck, pork jowl, yukhoe (beef tartare), assorted vegetables, and stew all included. You can choose between doenjang stew (soybean paste stew) or kimchi stew.

That's 420g total of pork jowl, pork neck, and pork belly. Sodangkkae O-gyeopjip Gyodae Main Branch says they raise and process Duroc — one of the world's top three pork breeds — domestically, using only fresh, never-frozen meat. Maybe that's why the color looked so clean and vivid.

Here's the assorted vegetables included in the set. One serving comes free, and you can order more after that.

The basic side dishes: lettuce wraps, scallion salad, corn mayo, and scallion kimchi. Simple but the classics you'd expect.

Grilled for you, start to finish
Once the pan was heated, the staff laid vegetables around the edges and put all the meat in the center. Another great thing about Sodangkkae O-gyeopjip is that they grill everything for you personally! Even at places that say they'll grill for you, you often end up having to cut or flip things yourself midway — but here, they handle everything from start to finish, so your clothes barely pick up any smell and it's incredibly relaxing.

BBQ places usually get pretty smoky, but here there's a hood right above the grill, so it was way more comfortable than I expected! And since the hood doesn't hang down from above, it's also easy to sit face-to-face and chat with the person across from you.

The kimchi stew and yukhoe included in the set
While the meat was grilling, the kimchi stew arrived. It had tofu, kimchi, and even meat in it, and after just one spoonful I thought, good call ordering the kimchi stew. The broth was rich enough that it would probably taste great mixed with rice too.

The yukhoe (beef tartare) came out next. It arrived fully dressed with egg yolk, pear, and radish sprouts. Eating it right away, it was cool and sweet — perfect as a drinking snack.

The nice thing about the Sodangkkae combo set is that with the meat, stew, and yukhoe all included, you get to try a variety of cuts.

How did the pork jowl, pork belly, and pork neck taste?
Once the meat was fully cooked, they piled it up on top like this.

First bite was pork jowl, my favorite. It was grilled to just the right point, packed with juice. Ugh, looking at the photo is making me hungry again...

The pork belly skin wasn't tough — it was soft, so even people who prefer regular samgyeopsal over o-gyeopsal (the fattier five-layer cut) would probably enjoy it without complaint. The meat was thick, so it had a satisfying chew too.

The more you chew, the nuttier it gets, with juice bursting out — so good 👍🏻 Next time I want to come here first, as the main stop, to really enjoy it properly.

The pork neck wasn't tough or dry either, and eating it together with the grilled water dropwort (minari) gave off a subtle fragrance 🌿 Pork and minari really is a great combo. There are so many combinations you can try with perilla leaves, scallion salad, wasabi, kimchi, and minari.
Good for a work dinner?
The restaurant wasn't chaotic — it had a calm atmosphere, making it a great choice for a work dinner as well as a meal with a partner or friends. What I was most satisfied with was the quality of the meat. If you're looking for a Korean BBQ place near Gyodae Station where they grill everything for you, I'd recommend Sodangkkae O-gyeopjip Gyodae Main Branch~!
