Yangjae walnut pie shop, a gift instead of cake: Hodu Kkakki Brothers
In short
Hodu Kkakki Brothers (호두까기형제) is a takeout-only handmade walnut pie shop in a Dogok-dong alley near Exit 4 of Yangjae Station in Gangnam, Seoul. The writer took home the Premium Assorted Pie box (₩34,900), which holds several flavors including signature, cheese and chocolate-style pies; the box arrived without the pies shifting, and the walnuts were nutty without the sweetness being overdone. If you want a gift dessert instead of a cake, the Hodu Kkakki Brothers assorted pie box is a good choice.

One of them, a dessert spot I keep thinking about after a single taste and my all-time favorite, is Hodu Kkakki Brothers (호두까끼형제)! If you're looking for a thoughtful dessert gift near Yangjae Station, or you love healthy handmade sweets, you might want to save this one!
Where is Hodu Kkakki Brothers near Yangjae Station?

Hodu Kkakki Brothers is a 2-minute walk from Exit 4 of Yangjae Station, tucked inside an alley in Dogok-dong. Step into the alley a little and you'll see "walnut pie" written in big letters, so I found it faster than I expected! It's a takeout-only shop and you can't eat inside, so keep that in mind!
What are Hodu Kkakki Brothers' walnut pies made of?

What I like is that the sweetness doesn't come from refined sugar! It's sweetened only with honey, maple syrup and oligosaccharide syrup, and they reportedly use organic flour and natural unsalted butter from New Zealand. So it's a flavor everyone from kids to adults can enjoy without feeling weighed down! They even make the cream cheese and jam themselves, so you can really feel the care in a single dessert, right?
Hodu Kkakki Brothers menu and prices

The walnut pie lineup is quite varied. I liked that you can choose by taste.
- Signature walnut pie
- Milk cream
- Cream cheese
- Hazelnut cacao
- Macadamia
- Sweet pumpkin

You can buy the pie by the slice, or get a whole pie or a mixed set, which makes it perfect for gifts! The assorted sets that let you mix several flavors are especially popular! At around ₩4,000 a slice, the price is pretty decent considering dessert prices these days!
What I ordered: Premium Assorted Pie, ₩34,900

I ordered the Premium Assorted Pie from Hodu Kkakki Brothers, priced at ₩34,900.
Does the walnut pie gift box keep its shape on the way home?
The packaging was really neat too. Pies lose their shape easily on the way, but when I opened the box at home, everything was perfectly intact! No wonder it's so popular for gifts, right?

How long do Hodu Kkakki Brothers walnut pies keep?
The walnut pie keeps for 7 days in the fridge and up to 30 days in the freezer, so you can take your time eating it. They also included a leaflet and storage instructions, which made me trust them even more haha
The Premium Assorted Pie I chose let me enjoy a variety of flavors. Doesn't it look so luxurious...? It works in place of a birthday cake, and it's great as a housewarming or parents' gift 👍👍

How did Hodu Kkakki Brothers' walnut pie taste?
Overall, the assorted pie had a rich, nutty walnut flavor, yet the sweetness wasn't overdone, so I never got tired of it and kept reaching for more hahaha From the signature to the cheese and chocolate types, every flavor has a clear personality, and it felt like they didn't skimp on ingredients. As a gift dessert, I really 🐶🐶🐶 recommend it

If you ever pass by Yangjae Station, please stop by Hodu Kkakki Brothers at least once!!! Especially in a season like this, when you're hunting for a thoughtful gift, it's a good alternative to a cake, and I recommend it to anyone looking for an upscale but easygoing dessert! If you're looking for a dessert spot near Yangjae Station or a gift dessert in Dogok-dong, save Hodu Kkakki Brothers 😃
